Luxury Long-Distance Train Journey: New York to London

New York City, New York

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

The trip went by pretty fast, mostly because I slept a lot. The lack of sunshine was unfun but it was nice that they provided vitamin D tablets to keep us from getting too depressed. I don't recommend this trip for people with kids. I think a few of the teens onboard would have thrown themselves onto the tracks if there were windows--5 days without Snapchat or Instagram? I'm not sure how they survived.

The "break glass in case of emergency" for scuba gear was a bit unnerving. I think England and the US should build a bridge because I feel that would be safer.

Viator Exclusive: Private Napa Valley Wine Train Culinary Experience from San Francisco

San Francisco, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I went on this to celebrate my recent engagement and had a splendid time--I really felt like a VIP. On the way to wine country, our driver was exceptionally knowledgeable about wine and gave us an education on the different types of wines and how to evaluate them during tastings. My favorite, favorite part of the entire experience was meeting the executive chef. He had prepared tasty little appetizers just for us and he went in depth on all the ingredients and methods he used as well as the history of the Wine Train. Absolutely fascinating (and delicious). The dinner was top-notch. I'm glad I went with his recommendation (a line-caught fish from Washington State)--truly sublime. We finished the evening in a club car for dessert and coffee. We even got to step outside of the car for some fresh air and to watch the scenery leisurely pass us by. I never felt rushed and everyone, from our driver, the executive chef, to the head waiter ensured the day was relaxing and carefree. A delightful, insightful experience!

I went at night and it was simply lovely seeing Manhattan lit up. There was significantly less people than I imagine during the day time which made the experience very enjoyable and more romantic. There wasn't much of a crowd, but it was nice to skip the line there was (even at 9:30pm at night) with my voucher. Highly recommend.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella on Broadway

My Review
What a delightful musical! The singing, the dancing, the acting were all pitch perfect. Not only was this production charming, but surprisingly funny. My seat was amazing, nice and center. I had excellent views of the sets pieces and the terrific quick wardrobe changes (the Fairy Godmother transformation is like a magic trick!). I highly recommend this production for anyone looking for a light-hearted, entertaining show.

Russian River Canoe Trip from Healdsburg

Healdsburg, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I had so much fun! I'm not an outdoorsy-type but it was a blast. Calm water with tiny pockets of faster currents to keep it interesting. The instructor gave good tips on the best way to navigate the river, how to steer, paddle etc. He also gave tips on good places to go ashore and climb out for some swimming--so bring a swimsuit. The water is refreshing; I wish I had thought to wear one.

You don't have to be an Olympic rower to enjoy this tour. I'm was a miserable but enthusiastic captain and while our boat did donuts in the water and ran aground into bushes and rocks, we were having fun and constantly laughing. There's a little shop before you set out in case you forgot your sunscreen or hat (so recommended). Also, wear your flip-flops for sloshing around in the water.

This was a great tour for this beginner/city girl and fun way to explore wine country without the wine. :)

Wine Country Tour by Horse and Carriage

Sonoma County, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I had a fantastic time on the Wine Carriage. Our driver/guide was incredibly friendly and super knowledgeable about all the vineyards we passed through and the history of the valley. I was really pleased with the choice of wineries. I particularly liked Hanna. Carol was pouring and educated us on the differences between all the wine growing regions from the grapes to the geography--she really knew her stuff! I ended up buying one of their reserve bottles it was so good. And the lunch! So amazingly tasty and pitch perfect for a wine country picnic lunch.

I can't recommend this highly enough; this tour really embodied the experience of what I wanted my trip to Sonoma to be.

de Young Museum Admission

San Francisco, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I was really surprised how much I loved this museum. Don't just come for the special exhibits (but if you do, you'll want to come early, this is a really popular place!), the whole museum is incredible and a lot bigger and more varied than you might expect.

We wandered through all the lower galleries admiring the cool modern sculptures and a very powerful photography exhibit on the ravages of wartime--absolutely captivating and timely. After the special exhibit and everything downstairs, we ventured upstairs and were blown away! There was so much to see that we opted to take a break for lunch (the cafe is crazy delicious--veal croquettes--I'll say no more). Everything from period furnishings, amazing textiles, Colonial portraits, entire galleries devoted to cultural arts, I couldn't snap enough pictures or contain my ooh and aahs!

I had hoped to visit the Legion of Honor in the same day, but visiting the DeYoung (especially if you're an art lover) is worth having a day to itself. I can't recommend this museum highly enough.

Skip the Line: California Academy of Sciences General Admission Ticket

My Review
I had such a splendid time at the Academy. They have a great range of exhibits so there's something for everyone. My favorite was the digital time machine that displays how the continents drifted over millions of years. I spent a good amount of time in the Rainforest watching butterflies landing nearby me and listening to the birds. The new Built for Exhibit was on display and seeing one of the actual racing catamarans suspended from the ceiling was super-cool. It really got me excited for the upcoming America's Cup!

Absinthe at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I've seen a few shows in Vegas, and I must say this was unlike anything I've seen. It's in a very intimate theater with terrific ambiance. The acts were super close, and designed for the very small 'stage' in the center of the ringed audience. I was gasping throughout the whole show, either from fear of the performers injuring themselves (the death-defying rollerskating act!) or from the shocking, bawdy comedic antics of the Gazillionaire (the ring leader of the motley circus).

This is so not for the easily offended! But if you can swing the swearing, off-color ribbing, and downright raunchy humor, you'll have an awesomely memorable time (no really, even brain bleach won't get it out) :)

Even if you've seen it before, you can see it again--it's a new show. I had seen this show when it was playing at the Venetian but I got roped in to watching it again with some friends. The venue has changed and so has the content. There is a lot of the old show there, but the new stuff is really cool. I love the steam ring drums and the awesome audience dance party. So much fun!!

PEEPSHOW at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I'm so glad I saw Peepshow! I'm not sure what was expecting but what I got was a very modern, sexy show that never felt cheap or trashy which is a fine line to dance with a topless show. The singing was top-notch! They performed everyone's favorite dance and pop songs which was great and the original numbers felt fresh and hip. The dancers were second to none. No sleazy strippers here! These ladies were all class and true performers with well executed choreography that made me even forget they were topless. The male performers were fun and engaging (yes, ladies! eye-candy for you too). It had a little bit of everything and it all felt relevant! A little magic trick here, a little bit of acrobatics there, a jaw-dropping pole dance, on top of all the goods the show already delivers. I especially loved the cheeky banter. The Peep Diva had such a sharp wit my cheeks were burning with laughter. Holly Madison may be leaving the show in October, but there is A LOT more to Peepshow than just her. Ms. Madison was quite charming but this is a solid show that will please no matter who is starring in it. A real must see!!!
