Las Vegas, Nevada
An amazing day from start to finish. Even though it was an early pick-up the welcome from the driver was great. There were 7 of us in an 9 seater plane so we all had uninterrupted views of the scenery. Headphones gave information about specific landmarks on route and the pilot was brilliant. Shuttle buses took us to Eagle Point and the Skywalk then on to Guano Point where we had a hot lunch before returning to the airport. A highly recommended trip
New York City, New York
Unlike other hop- on hop-off buses we had been on these had a tour guides as opposed to plug in earphones which you could choose the language. This meant that often half the bus had no idea what was being said. Some of them were excellent and were helpful with both information and anecdotes. One actually mentioned that the fire houses had t shirts, sweat tops and hats that they would sell, the proceeds of which went towards the children’s Christmas party. We did this and they make unique gifts. Others however were less than friendly. One guide spoke to foreign passengers who were talking amongst themselves as if they were naughty children who dared to speak when he was. Some shouted and yelled and wanted the bus to be a party bus with audience participation. On the Brooklyn loop which is not a hop-on hop-off tour the bus made a 20min unscheduled stop at a pizza restaurant and encouraged everybody to get off to go and buy some !!! No doubt they were on commission. The worst element was when some of the guides constantly mentioned the leaving of tips and would be standing at the exit with the box blocking your way off. On one bus I only had a $20 bill and said so. The guide said that was ok as he had change in the box. I gave him the $20 and he gave me $15 back. I am not one to create a scene in public so I just left, but it left me with a sour taste in my mouth. When you are changing buses so many times in the day it would cost more than the tour cost to keep giving tips like this. The information given was good but with a good guide book everything is so close together, if you are fit and able I would suggest walking rather than taking these buses.
Los Angeles, California
The hop-on hop-off tour of Los Angeles for us was rather disappointing. The information was good and informative but the length of each route and the coordination of the change-over from one route to another was terrible. The transfer coordinator of the red and yellow routes– Frank- was unclear about when buses were arriving and leaving. We arrived at one changeover point to be told the bus for the other route would be leaving in 30 minutes and would we like to use the restroom. There was a farmers market adjacent so we walked through this and returned after 20 minutes to be told that the bus had just left meaning we had ½ hour to wait for the next one. We then wanted to use the bus and go to Universal Studios only to be told by the driver that he was having his lunch and there would not be another one for 1¼ hours , this was not mentioned in the route map we were given. On our return to the change over point we were amazed to see the bus we wanted pulling out as we turned into the bus stop. They surely knew that the bus was due in because we had arrived at the end of the street in clear view of the coordinator. Yet another ½ hour wasted waiting for the next one to go. At the Farmer’s Market we waited 45mins for a bus when they were supposed to be 20 mins apart.
We never made it to the Downtown loop as we had no time left to complete it and return to our starting point.
The trip on the barrier Reef was absolutely excellent. Firstly the boat was the right size and the crew excellent, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. All safety aspects were gone through and the equipment available from sting suits, floatation jackets, fins, masks and snorkels were of good condition. Breakfast was great with unlimited tea/coffee available throughout the trip. A bar was there and the prices were not a ripoff. The lunch was excellent, followed on the way back by fruit, cheese and biscuits finally slices of cake. An excellent glass bottomed boat trip of the reef with a very knowledgeable skipper. The two areas of the reef they took us to, there were only two boats there, so you were very private. There are only two points I would make. More information needs to be given regarding were to park and the costs. The carpark we used we had to pay in coins only and were chaseing round for 10 dollars in coins. Also were you need to go to check-in. We were then told there was an underground carpark which took credit cards. Other than this I would reccomend this trip to anybody. We would certainly use this company again.
