I've been to both these villas before, once in 1980 on my honeymoon ( Ville d'Este by night and it was magical ) and again in 2006 so I was really looking forward to bringing my daughter to see them for her first time. Both of these places are well worth seeing, so amazing but I'm sorry to say that this trip is very badly organised. We left Rome at 2.30 pm and arrived in Tivoli after 3pm. Our tour guide was a lovely woman but since the group consisted of different nationalities, she had to do her 'talks' in 4 or 5 different languages so by the time we got through to the gardens in Ville d'Este it was 3.45pm and we had to meet back at the bus at 4.30pm to travel to Hadrian's Villa. So we had approx 30 minutes in the gardens before we made our way back to the bus so it was just hectic, so much to see and we had to run through it, never mind the amount of steps we had to climb up and down. We left Villa d'Este wishing we could have stayed there much longer. At 5pm we arrived at Hadrian's Villa and it was a repeat performance, we were rushed through so that we were back to the bus for 6pm. A hectic afternoon and not worth the price and definitely not for anyone who has any difficulties walking. It could be a magnificent trip if organised better as these two places are so worth seeing.
This was a wonderful experience for my daughter and I and well worth doing and I'll do it again when I return to Rome. The meal was excellent from start to finish ( we chose the diamond menu ) and the staff were so pleasant and welcoming, also we had no waiting time to be seated as we were priority with this package. The atmosphere was great as was the music. All in all, a fantastic evening and a must do when in Rome.
