Prague, Czech Republic
No fault of Viator, or the local company through which this is run, but I was disappointed and found this trip to be a bit of a waste.
I am not opposed to 2-4 hour car trips (as long as what I am going to see is worthwhile, and the van has AC) so a 2 hour trip to Dresden sounded good to me. We got there in no time, but the problem is the city itself is deadly boring. Don't get me wrong, the buildings (which are all reconstructed, not original) are very, very pretty -- but there are only about 5 buildings of interest, they are (except one) all on the same square, and - with the exception of the Zwinger - you can't really go into any of them or do any sort of tour or learn about the history. So, our guide (who was very very nice, and did the best with what he had) gave us a short speech on each of the buildings, but then left us with 4 hours to kill before meeting up.
Normally, I LOVE having free time in a city to do my own thing. But not here, because there was NOTHING TO DO in Dresden. The town was dead; the people were extremely rude; the few places that seemed fun to hang out in refused to take credit cards and having come from Prague where they don't use the Euro, I had no Euro (and, by the way, I literally could not find an ATM ANYWHERE in the town. I looked for 20 minutes). So I decided to just go to the Zwinger art gallery for the whole time (entry is included in the price of the trip).
The art was worth seeing, so it was not a total waste. But the people at the Zwinger were very rude, the cafe food was disgusting, and the bathrooms foul. Overall, I felt like I spent one of the days of my vacation killing time wishing it was time to go back to Prague already. Again, no fault of our tour guide or the service; they were professional, timely, and informative. But if I had it to do over, I would have been better served staying in Prague for another day, or even trying one of the other trips. Dresden was not worth it.
This tour was amazing! Viator uses local company Super Tours, and our tour guide Olga and our driver were both wonderful. Olga spoke fluent english, and was outgoing and informative. She knew a ton about the history of the region, and gave us a detailed explanation of the region and both the ancient and recent history. We skipped Medjugorge for more time in Pocitelj and Mostar and were glad we did. Pocitelj was very quaint and interesting. Mostar itself was stunningly beautiful. The bridge is amazing, and the old town market was colorful and fun. Lots of fun (and cheap, but well made) trinkets and souvenirs to buy. The borders between Bosnia and Croatia were no problem at all. We got traditional Turkish teas at lunch at a restaurant Labirint. We went for the traditional Bosnian grill and the local wine and it was absolutely delicious. With great views of the bridge and the mosque. I would highly recommend this tour (or any tour with this company) to anyone.
