I have just returned from a day trip (03/01/2013) to Morocco and must confess that it did not measure up to what I expected. Being there, done that and wasted my money was the thought I had when I left Morocco. The trip states a view of the Atlantic / Mediterranean Sea, which was about 1km away through the trees. The camel rides available along the side of the road were very artificial. You climbed aboard, had a photo and got off - I have seen better rides at the zoo. The ‘snake charmer’ only banged on a drum to irritate the cobra and then demanded money. We were then hustled into tourist trap shops, very convenient for our local guide who did not even disguise the kickbacks he received from the man at the door. We were not allowed to visit or stop at any local street traders.
Unfortunately during our day trip, huge Atlantic swells caused the Spanish to close the Port of Tarifa resulting in the ferry not running. The tour leader and assistant (Pedro) called the group together and just said there was a problem and left us in the square for 2 hours from 15:00 to 17:00 without an explanation. From 17:00 until 23:00 when we were able to board another ferry, we were just herded from one room to another without any explanations. The tour leader kept on saying that she had no idea about what was going on, while Pedro's philosophy was ‘he who shouts the loudest is correct. He continued to shrug his sholders and say that it was not his problem. He verbally abused a number of females in the group causing then to cry and even called me stupid when I tried to ask a question. Stuck in a foreign country with no information and no possible transport, is not why you go on a trip. On a scale of 1 (Poor) to 10 (Excellent), I would rate the communication and customer service of the tour at nought. Overall, the lunch was excellent and the different cultural experience made up for the messy leadership and I would award 1 star.
