Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum Half-Day Trip from Krakow

Krakow, Poland

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We were on holiday from New Zealand, staying in Krakow. This was overall a satisfactory trip but had a few areas initially needing review. We were late being picked up from the hotel by the shuttle, and then this was compounded by confusion at the bus "terminal" by the river. We arrived expecting to move onto a larger bus, but were told to stay on the bus until our bus was ready to go. In the meantime our bus was designated for another tour and more people started getting on board! Needless to say this caused unnecessary problems in that the people waiting to get off were struggling to be able to do so due to the extra people blocking the corridor...Eventually our group told people trying to get on to wait until we vacated the bus (whenever that might be). After about ten minutes we were told to get off the bus and after a further wait told to proceed to another bus. Unfortunately there were too many people to fit in this bus (we were told the numbers of people were higher than the company had expected, and they were bringing in yet another bus). After another half an hour or so of waiting around we eventually took off much later than expected. The rest of the day ran smoothly and everyone managed to visit both Auschwitz and Birkenau Camps. The guide at the camp was good, and having head phones also helped everyone hear what was being said (very difficult with so many people in the same place). All in all not a bad day, but one would have thought the tour company would have known how many people were booked on the tour?

Salzburg Super Saver: Bavarian Mountains including Eagle's Nest and Salt Mines

Salzburg, Austria

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We were on holiday from New Zealand, staying in Salzburg for four nights. Our hotel was close to the old town, and the tour company picked us up from our hotel in a shuttle before the tour started. The whole day was well organised, and our tour guide had an awesome sense of humour, which combined with his "traditional Austrian clothing" made the trip even better. Jokes galore all day, very smoothly run considering we visited quite a few different places over the course of the day, and the bus had other tours also on it. The Eagles Nest was truly amazing with magnificent views (the weather was brilliant) and the visit to the Salt Mine was unique in that we we have never experienced this sort of thing before. Time out in the Bavarian village of Berchtesgaden and finishing off with a trip to the magnificent Lake Konigsee. Overall a truly memorable day with a memorable tour guide. Well done!!

Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Small Group Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We were on holiday in Europe from New Zealand, and were staying in Munich for a few days. This was an excellent low key way to get to Dachau from Munich, travelling with the tour guide first by train, and then by public bus. Being part of a tour group to a place such as this is important in that you get a much broader perspective of what happened as against walking it by yourself. Obviously it is a sobering and somewhat depressing destination, but well worthwhile if you are holidaying in this part of Germany. Our tour guide was very informative and we all left the trip having learned much about the miseries endured by the poor souls incarcerated here.

Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

A TRULY AWFUL day which started off the way it carried on - chaotically! Our tour guide appeared confused and flustered as soon as we got onto the bus, checking and rechecking people's names and at one stage asking everyone to "please be quiet" so that she could be sure that the correct amount of people were on board! During this "very long day" she continued to undertake numerous muster checks, one of which resulted in her announcing over the intercom that "THERE APPEARS TO BE A DISCREPANCY" until after yet more checks we had the correct total. This she carried out by stating each group from each country must answer her by confirming the total of their group. After 10 hours both my wife and I had had more than enough. When we finally reached Neuschwanstein we had around two and a half hours to kill before the castle tour. Our guide then got tickets for the group, but came back to us with one for the 3.10pm and one for the 3.25pm tour for us. When my wife stated that we will be on the same trip she was told to swap one ticket with someone else! My wife told her that was her job, not ours, and to sort it out. I feel that the advertising relating to the trip is misleading in that you state: "four hours to explore the castle and grounds" - on the day of our trip (37 degrees) we had a long sit inside the restaurant followed by a 30 minute plus walk up to the castle plus when you add on the return trip the time at the castle would probably clock in with more like two hours, or less. We were told to be back at the bus by 5pm. When the first visit was booked at 3.10pm it is hard to get four hours visiting the castle when everyone had to be back at the bus by 5pm!! We spent nearly six weeks touring Europe, and undertook numerous tours with different companies in six countries.. We can honestly say that this was the WORST tour out of all of them.

Stonehenge, Salisbury and Bath Day Trip from London

London, United Kingdom

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We were holidaying in England from New Zealand for ten days and wanted to see Stonehenge in particular. This tour gave us the option also of visiting Salisbury and Bath. The tour guide was very informative and had a great sense of humour, and we would recommend it to others wanting to see historic sights in England without having to worry about driving in a strange country.
