Pick up from the hotel went well. Transport to the shopping mall to catch the main bus was good as was our tour guide. Coffee was provided while waiting for the bus but unfortunately not tea. The first stop at the cenote was awesome - be sure to take your bathers and a bag to put your clothes in while you swim; valuables can be left in the bus. Lunch was good and the folk dancers were fun. Chichen Itza is definitely a must see, but we were very disapointed with the local guide who wasted time asking jokey questions and trying to impress the group when he could have been providing more needed information about the site and the monuments.
Excellent trip! This site is more compact than Chichen Itza so you get to see more in the time available. For example you can see the central temple and the observatory from the same view point, and there are more obvious features (e.g. windows in buildings) relating the layout of the site to astrological events. The tour was complemented by an excellent tour guide who was very proud of his Mayan heritage and keen to impart information.
This tour featured snorkelling, a Mayan temple site and Isla Mujeres. Unfortunately the snorkelling was a "washout" do to fairly high swell and rain. The Mayan ruin was well worth a visit and there was excellent commentry by one of the crew/entertainment leaders. Isla Mujeres was nice to walk around. There were plently of street stalls for shopping, an interesting statue of a Mayan goodess being "impregnated" by the wind (!) and the local church of the Emmaculate Conception to visit ( I haven't figured out yet whether one or both of these are related to the name of the "Island of Women"). The trip included all drinks (including alcoholic drinks) on board, an adequate lunch taken on the boat and a disco on the return trip which was great fun but might be a bit loud for some people.
