I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel a lot in the last 10 years. I have been on 5 different continents and have enjoyed experiencing different cultures, soaking in a lot of history and taking many opportunities to go hiking.
The driver and guide, Philip, was excellent. The van sat 7 guests and there were only 5 of us and so we were not crammed in the vehicle. We stopped at 3 villages, and had sufficient time to wander around. Philip did not lead us on any tours but took us to particular points of interest and then gave us free time to wander. I am glad I went on this tour, but if you have limited time in Dubrovnik, I would recommend you go to one of the islands, in particular Korcula, rather than going to Montenegro.
This was my second time of climbing through the 5 villages. I was concerned that we would not be able to do all the villages, but in the end, due to the heat of the day, I was very satisfied with only climbing between the second, third, and fourth villages. The lunch provided was excellent and gave a good taste of the local cuisine. There was sufficient time to wander all through the 5 villages. The boat trip was a bonus as it was wonderful to see the villages from the sea.
This was a large bus excursion to Delphi. The guide was very knowledgeable, but at times spoke too much. When we were at Delphi, he stopped at a particular spot in the ruins and spoke for quite a long time about the whole area. It became clear that it was not his intent to take us to the top where we could view where the athletic events would have taken place, and so several of us asked to be given the time to climb to the top to see the rest of the ruins. He gave us limited time but we were able to go and see all the ruins. The tour group, however, were waiting for us at the museum as the guide did not seem to want ot begin without us. The lunch provided at a restaurant in a hotel was not that phenomenal. There was no opportunity to wander around the sites and go to the ruins on the opposite side of the road.
This was a great walk throughout the back streets of old town Athens. Kostas, our guide, took us on a leisurely walk into places we wouldn't know to go and explained, with great passion, the significance of where we were and what we were seeing. The tour was changed to an evening tour, commencing at 5pm, and we were called in advance to tell us of the change. Due to the heat of the day it was good that we did this in the evening as we were walking a lot and at some points climbing some hills. Kostas prefers private tours and so it was perfect for my friend and I; Kostas is the owner of this small tour company and wants to provide personalized attention. He organized a further tour for us on another day that took us to the Parthenon with a guide who was a training archeologist.
