Quebec City and Montmorency Falls Day Trip from Montreal

Montreal, Canada

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

So here is the deal. It's a day trip from Montreal and we already know that it takes three hours by coach one way to get there. Which doesn't leave much time to actually be in Quebec City, BUT, if your time is limited in Montreal, it is a very enjoyable tour to Quebec City. Here is what you can expect: You leave Montreal around 8AM, arrive in Quebec City around 11:15AM, you get a 30-45 minute walking tour of lower town, you get back on the coach for the 15 minute drive to Montmorency. You spend 15 minutes at Montmorency (WAY TOO LITTLE TIME), back on Coach to go back to Quebec City, back in QC around 1PM and if you opt out of the boat tour, you pretty much have 1:15PM-4:45PM to spend there to sightsee and have lunch. Back in Montreal at 8PM. It's a full day, but it's a lot to stuff in a day. So do I suggest it, Yes if your time in Montreal is limited. But I think Quebec City is worthy of dedicating a couple days to seeing it, so if my time hadn't been as limited I would have taken a train independently to QC and spent a night or two there, as well. As far as the trip itself is concerned: courteous, professional driver and our local guide in Quebec City (can't remember his name...) was AWESOME: informative, funny, charismatic and full of information, switching back and forth from English and French to accommodate everyone. Highly recommend this tour!! - Again, if your time is limited. And skip the boat bit as it will give you more time to explore Quebec City.

Laurentian Mountains Day Trip From Montreal

Montreal, Canada

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

I would rate this as "worth doing" (Viator three stars) because it was a nice day trip outside of Montreal. Started out on the wrong foot as my driver was 25 minutes late, though! The actual itinerary slightly deviated from the written one, though, as the St. Sauveur stop was actually the last one, not the first. I've read this in other reviews, too, so if you need your morning coffee, GET IT BEFORE THE TOUR BEGINS. The stop at Lac Joseph was nice. The boat trip on Lac de Sables was wonderful, especially with it being Fall - the foliage mirrored on the lake was extraordinary! The final stop, the supposed highlight of the itinerary, is the stop at Mont-Tremblant. This is actually a ski resort not a mountain town, therefore if you're looking for "authentic" you won't find it there. (It kind of felt like Disneyland.) The gondola up the top is definitely worth doing; you pay either for the cost of the ticket only or for about 6$ more lunch at the top. I've read from other reviewers that the food at the top was bad so I opted to buy the ticket only, and felt I made the right decision after other members in my group complained about the food. (I bought a 12$ pita in town once I was done with the gondola ride and it was delicious and filling.) All in all a good day trip though I think I would not have enjoyed it as much if the brilliant Fall colors were not on display.

My Review

Good tour. We picked the earliest departure (10AM) on a Friday and were very happy with the number of people, not crowded, compared to the later tours I'd see on the river, which were packed with people. The tour guide/speaker was excellent. Informative and funny. A MUST DO in Chicago, as it gives you a great perspective of the buildings and a lot of fascinating history.

Shared Arrival Transfer: Dubrovnik Airport to Dubrovnik, Cavtat, Orebic and Korcula Hotels

Dubrovnik, Croatia

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Well, I got lucky, as my "Shared" arrival transfer ended up just being me, in a black four door sedan! Transfer was right on time - as soon as I stepped into arrivals area, I saw the woman holding a sign with my name, and she introduced me to the driver and we were on our way. The driver was very friendly and talkative, and along the drive from the airport to my hotel gave me insight on what to do and where to go in Dubrovnik, pointed out sights along the way, etc. Wonderful experience arriving in Croatia!

Avila and Segovia Day Trip from Madrid

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Awesome day trip! The Avila stop, for me, was just okay, as it was the Segovia part that interested me most. The Aqueduct of Segovia was breathtaking to see and spend time around, and we had about 3 hours of free time to spend around in the area (if you didn't ask for an included lunch...I brought my own sandwich for the day to maximize the time around the site). I heard however that the lunch was excellent (suckling pig), so worth considering. The Cathedral was impressive as well. All in all an excellent trip. Recommend as a good option for getting out of Madrid for a day.

Barcelona Day Trip: Montserrat, Colonia Guell and Gaudi Crypt

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Enjoyed this trip, despite the cold weather. Montserrat is an impressive site to see and explore, and we had ample free time (3+ hours) to walk around it as well as hike/walk to the cross on the hill for photos. Recommend as a good choice for getting out of Barcelona for a day.

Quito Arrival Transfers

Quito, Ecuador

My Review

How do I properly rate this? I requested to be met at the airport and driven to my hotel, and I was. (Keep in mind this is A SHARED TRANSFER so don't expect that the moment you find the agent, you will be taken to your hotel - you may have to wait a bit for other passengers who will be sharing the same shuttle.) With that in mind, the representative who met me was super friendly and a pleasure to chat with while we waited for the others. A bit of drama unfolded on my trip, however, when the shuttle driver arrived and promptly began throwing up on the sidewalk - apparently he'd gotten food poisoning. He told the agent he could not drive the shuttle (obviously), so the agent - keeping positive spirits - announced that she would have to drive the shuttle. So although it no doubt took much longer to get to the hotel than it would have otherwise (due to her slow but careful driving), I got to my hotel and thanked her for her cautious driving and ability to handle a difficult situation with ease. Given this was an UNUSUAL situation, I highly recommend using this service (it's through Grey Line Ecuador) for your arrival transfer. Thank you!
