Istanbul Airport Private Departure Transfer

Istanbul, Turkey

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We booked a pickup from Ataturk airport to our airport both ways and this transfer was operated by Neon Tours. Our driver was waiting for us on time at the airport with our name on a sign - however I have heard that they sometimes just put Neon Tours on the sign - just to be aware. Pickup back to the Airport was on time also. Air conditioned mini van - comfortable and clean. Polite, courteous and good drivers. No complaints!!

Small-Group Gallipoli Day Trip from Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Be prepared for a very long day however this tour is well worth it. Pickup from your Hotel at 6 am and drop off back to your hotel close to midnight. About 5 hours drive to Gallipoli and then another 5 hours back to your hotel in Istanbul. A few things in regards to Neon of which we were not happy about. As we booked this tour with Neon we expected a Neon Tour Bus to pick us up. However, the Tour group that took us was Hassle Free Tours. The guide (Munt) did not speak to us much at all on the 5 hour journey to Gallipoli only to tell us when it was time to have a break and what time to be back on the bus. When we finally arrived in Gallipoli another Tour Guide (Murat) took over and then it started to get a lot better from there. We had lunch (which was okay) before we set off on our tour around Gallipoli. Murat was excellent, spoke very good English, had a great sense of humour and his knowledge on the history of Gallipoli is very extensive. He gave us a great insight and an unbiased account of the strategies they used and how these soldiers suffered through this sad time. We started from the beginning right to the end and took in all the important landmarks. About 6pm we headed back to Istanbul - quite exhausted - and arrived back at our Hotel around midnight. The drivers both ways were excellent. However just a heads up that the food in these road side services doesn't look too appetising and if you have a sensitive tummy you are better off bringing some of your own snacks (we had bananas etc). Well worth it.

Istanbul in One Day Sightseeing Tour: Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar

Istanbul, Turkey

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We went on the full day Tour of Istanbul taking in The Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofya, Grand Bazaar, Hippodrome, The underground Cisterns and Lunch at Omar Restaurant. Our driver was on time and we were driven in a nice and comfortable air conditioned mini bus to the Hippodrome to start our walk. We were also lucky to have a small group of only 7 of us - perfect! Our Tour Guide was Omar and he spoke excellent English and was very informative with a wealth of knowledge on the Ottoman Empire! Lots of walking of which we thoroughly enjoyed (some may not) and lunch was included - apart from drinks. We were also taken to a Turkish Rug manufacturer who gave us a demonstration on how the rugs are made etc. Which we found fascinating and informative (some take years to make). They then sat us down with a cold drink and proceeded to show us their rugs. Then of course the usual sales pitch at the end. Some would find it a bit overwhelming - but they were pleasant enough and backed off when they got the hint that we were not in the market for a rug. They also had a selection of jewellery for sale. In summary it was a great day and we certainly experienced and learnt a lot about the History of Istanbul. An amazing city!!

Small-Group Bosnia and Herzegovina Day Trip from Dubrovnik including Medjugorje and Mostar

Dubrovnik, Croatia

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We booked our day Tour for Bosnia and Herzegovina with Viator and was really impressed with our day and the Super Tours Travel Company. We had a small tour of 8 and were picked up promptly at our agreed stop right on time! Our driver was excellent and drove very safely! Paula, our guide spoke excellent English and really gave us a good insight of the history of Bosnia/Herzegovina - particularly the War for Independence in 1993. We started the tour with a stop in Pocitelj a UNESCO medieval town steeped in history. Quite a few steps up to the Tower ruins, however, well worth it for the stunning views of the river and surrounding mountains.. Enough time to have a look around and then on to Mostar. What an amazing place! Such a beautiful village with winding alleys full of shops, restaurants, cafes etc along with their amazing bridge which goes over the river - stunning views. The tradition is to pay the diver to dive off the bridge into the river and you get the advantage point to take some great photos. The atmosphere is great as he touts for business. We had a separate guide to give us a small "snapshot" of the village and its history - particularly how the war effected it with all the bombings and destruction that occurred. He also showed us a short 8 minute video of how it all looked before the destruction. Quite moving actually. Paula then recommended the local restaurant Restoran Europa for lunch and recommended trying the local dish, Cevapi (basically small tasty sausages). The restaurant was excellent and the Cevapi washed down with the local beer, Sarajeusko, was divine! Highly recommend you try it! We all took a vote and skipped the Catholic Church as we had read other reviews saying it really can be missed if you are not overly religious and cannot relate to it. Glad we did as we had more time in Mostar. Headed back to Dubrovnik and arrived about 5.45pm! The border crossing/passport control can take a while - but well worth it!!

Half-Day Pompeii Sightseeing Trip from Sorrento

Sorrento, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We visited Pompei on a day tour from Sorrento (with Viator). We were lucky enough to have a fabulous guide who spoke quite good English and was very informative. Lots of the buildings have not been touched and are in the same condition as they were thousands of years ago when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Visit the oldest brothel in the world (they say) - still in its original state. There are even signs along the road imbedded into the rock to show the directions for the locals. This is a long tour as it goes for a few hours and it does get extremely hot - so remember your hat, sunscreen and water. Also ensure that you wear good walking shoes as the roads can be quite uneven in places as a lot of them are still original. Also, the toilet facilities are at the start of your tour and there are no restrooms once you start. Well worth a visit as the history is amazing!!

French Riviera Small Group Day Trip from Nice

Nice, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We had a fantastic day out from Nice to Eze, Cannes, Monaco and Antibes. Our tour guide was Camille (excuse spelling if wrong) and she was great. Arrived on time to pick us up at our Hotel and her English and narration throughout the day was superb. We had a very small tour group of only 6 of us in her Mini Van/Bus which was great. An excellent driver as there were some challenging routes along the way. Also very patient as she had to park in some very difficult spots to wait for us. She is obviously very passionate about her country and was a wealth of knowledge in regards to local history. Also very approachable should we wish to ask questions etc. We absolutely loved Monte Carlo - an amazing place. The Casino and the drive along the "Grand Prix" route was fun. Cannes is amazing and we enjoyed the walk around the Marina checking out the beautiful millionaires yachts and of course all the Designer shops. Antibes was lovely too - thought we would love to go back and spend a few days there. Eze we found to be a tad touristy however a lovely medieval hill top village steeped in lots of history. We also visited the Fragonard perfume factory at the bottom of the hill which I really enjoyed. Top marks to Camille - thanks for a very memorable and special day.

Cordoba Day Trip from Seville

Seville, Spain

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We were picked up from our Hotel on time and then the bus driver (who. Could not speak a word of English) took us to another hotel where we joined another bus of tourists. It was a good 15 minutes later before the bus headed off in the journey. Apparently they were sorting out head counts etc (?) Bit frustrating as from our pick up to setting off time it was over an hour until we left Seville. This bus driver did not speak English either - and there was no tour guide either on the journey. We were quite horrified to notice that this bus driver chatted on his mobile phone with one hand on the wheel a few times on the Journey. He even swayed over the middle line a few times (couldn't look). On arrival in Cordoba we were greeted by a tour guide who introduced herself and then took us straight to yet another tour guide (Isabella). No mention of would we like a toilet break or whatever before we commenced. By this time we were 4 hours into our tour. First we visited the Palace and the gardens. Then on to the Jewish Synagogue and a few "Squares" with lovely patios etc. We found it a little boring to be honest and it was extremely hot. We almost boycotted the tour when we decided we thought we'd join her in the Mosque/Cathedral (as it would be cooler) which was the last stopping point on the tour! Glad we did - absolutely breathtaking and like nothing we had ever seen. Just amazing and a must to see! Isabella was a very good guide and obviously very passionate about the history of Cordoba - we certainly learned alot, however, perhaps a little over the top with the narration. You could see a few of the people on our tour getting a tad tired and bored! If you can make your own way to Cordoba to visit the Mosque/Cathedral - which is a must - I suggest you do that and save yourself the cost of this tour.

Gibraltar Day Trip from Seville

Seville, Spain

My Rating

My Review

We did not know what to expect with this tour so we had a really interesting and enlightening day. Our tour guide Grace picked us up on time with the bus driver. Upon our arrival we were met by another Tour Guide/Bus Driver who took us all around the Island. He was amazing and full of information and history. Drove us through some of the cave/tunnels explaining the history - also to the Top where all the monkeys were and a wonderful cave full of stalegmites - awesome - like nothing we had ever seen before. The monkeys were mischievous and very entertaining. Had some time to walk around and we really felt like we were in the UK when we walked down the "High Street" as there are lots of UK chains stores here. A shoppers paradise with lots of duty free. The airport is amazing too as the runaway goes right over a road that you go across to get off the island through the border patrol. Obviously this road is closed off whilst the planes take off and land - now that's different! Beware that they check your shopping when you come back over the border. A reminder to take your passport to go through the border! The Rock is amazing - worth a visit!!

Lisbon Super Saver: 2-Day Lisbon Walking Tour with Food and Wine Tastings, and Sintra and Cascais Day Trip

Lisbon, Portugal

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We spent a fantastic day with Paulo on our Insight walking tour of Lisbon! This tour was booked with Viator and we were lucky to have a small group of 6. Paulo is obviously very passionate about his city and we really did get a lot out of the day. He was very interesting and did not bore us with too many dates etc just gave us the honest straight forward history and current uptodate information on this beautiful city! His knowledge of Lisbon is very extensive! He took us down side streets and alleys which as a tourist you would not know existed. Also explained to us how a lot of these quiet back streets come alive at night with restaurants, bars and nightclubs! A really good insight to the Portugese way of life! We had some great stops along the way - espresso and pastries - divine! Port tasting with cheese and quince - yummo! Beer - because we needed one as it was a warm day and we were thirsty ;) Then a fantastic trip across the Tagus river on the Ferry with the locals to view this wonderful city from the other side. You can also stay longer should you wish to view the "Christo" - however you need to make your own way back. We sampled some fantastic seafood also and "green" wine - very light sparkling wine - yummo! The day went really quick and we didn't realise that it was about 2 hours over schedule - we were enjoying it so much! If you do this tour - try and ensure its Paulo guiding you - you won't be disappointed!!

Our day to Sintra we quite enjoyed however it was a pretty long day! The Palace and gardens were very interesting - however a bit too touristy for us! We could of done without the few hours in Cascais too - found it all a bit too touristy.

Out of these two days we thought the Lisbon walking tour with Paulo was definitely the highlight!!

Lisbon is a fabulous city - we just fell in love with it! A fantastic way to see all of the highlights and soak up the history of this city. Also if you are tired of walking - if gives you a bit of a break. It does not take you through the centre however as the streets are so narrow - save that view for the Trams. Well worth it!

Douro Valley Small-Group Tour with Wine Tasting, Portuguese Lunch and Optional River Cruise

Porto, Portugal

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I am rating this review highly mainly as the views of the Douro Valley are so beautiful and with the gorgeous river meandering through - this is a must to see and experience. My husband and I both agreed that the scenery definitely rivals Tuscany. We enjoyed the boat cruise down the river and lunch was lovely. Also the Wine/Port tasting is a must. My only gripe is that our Tour Guide/Driver Ricardo (who was really lovely and full of history) drove too fast and a little unsafe for my liking. It was very hair raising with him on the freeway and also the winding roads up the mountains and through the small villages. I just couldn't look! However this tour is amazing and well worth it. A fantastic day out!!

John o’Groats and Duncansby Head Day Trip from Inverness

Inverness, United Kingdom

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Sadly we had terrible weather for this day tour - however - that is not the fault of the Tour! You get that in Scotland! Visiting John O'Groats had been on our "bucket list" for a while having done Lands End a few years ago! When we arrived at John O'Groats it was pouring down and freezing - however - we were on a mission to get our photo taken at the "Sign" which says you are "here" at the most northern tip. To our disappointment and frustration we found that the pole was there but not the sign! We went to the kiosk and they explained that you had to pay a fee for the sign to be up for your photo to be taken! This privilege had to be prearranged with a Photography Company that apparently had the "rights" to this tourist attraction. We were absolutely gobsmacked and appalled that this simple tourist attraction of a "sign" was owned and obviously had been exploited over many years! Also we were quite annoyed that we were not advised of this before taking the tour! Our Tour guide claimed no knowledge either (yeah right). By the time we arrived at Duncansby Heads it really was blowing a gale. A few of the braver tourists did the trek with the Guide and came back soaking wet and advised that they could not quite see the Puffins as they were so far away. In summary we found the whole day quite disappointing. Our guide also lacked a bit of personality which didn't add to the day! If you have a car - do it yourself and save your money.

3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Unfortunately we had very bad weather whilst in Edinburgh and thus impeded our visit to this lovely city. The Bus tour was informative however the road works really slowed it all down - and we were sitting in quite a few traffic jams. We had pre timed our journey after enquiring about how long the circuit took. Consequently we missed our train back to Dumferline and the next train was cancelled! So we had to take the bus back a few hours later! Not happy!

3-Day Isle of Skye Small-Group Tour from Glasgow

Glasgow, United Kingdom

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We had a fantastic time on this Tour. Largely due to our awesome Tour Guide/Driver Paul. He is obviously very passionate about his Home Country Scotland and has a vast knowledge of Scottish History. He kept us enthralled with the History and funny stories about the Fairys and local Legends. Along with the Scottish music it created a great feel for the Highlands and Skye. He also went out of his way to ensure we got the most out of our Tour by taking little detours to show us different views of Mountains and an extra Distillery or two ;) he even opted to take the bus over on the Car Ferry from Glenelg rather than go over on the bridge (we did that on the way back) just so we could experience the crossing and see Skye from a different angle. A great experience for all of us - the views were amazing! Rabbis organised our accomodation at Woodpark Guest House and Angis and Murdo looked after us well. The best way to see Skye - let the professionals look after you!!
