Rome Food Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a great tour. Sarah, our leader from Michigan, did a great job. We would highly recommend this tour. Sarah did a nice job weaving history into the food scene. It was fun that she related so well to the shop keepers and restauranters. Make sure you don't eat before you take this tour as you will be stuffed. also you can easily plan another tour around 2:30pm if you do their 9:45am tour. Sarah called a taxi for us and we easily made our connection. Thanks sarah!

Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Of all the tours we did with this tour operator this one was the least enjoyable. It was a small group but they did not have the hearing devices that all the other tours had. The information shared was adequate. It seems as though there were a lot more visitors than usual so we were pressed to move on more quickly than we liked. The trip to San Clemente Basilica was very interesting. Also the Cappuchin Cryot was interesting. I think that the timing was off so a lot of information may not have been shared.

Skip the Line: Borghese Gallery and Gardens Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Another great Dark Rome Tour. The Borghese Gallery is wonderful. We entered promptly. Head sets to hear our guide are great. Louise, our guide from Ireland, had a wealth of knowledge about the art works. I was blown away by the awesome sculpture; it is exquisitely beautiful. The Gardens were nice but i might skip it as a fair amount of walking and not as beautiful as some gardens. The view at the end was very nice though. But the Borghese Gallery is not to be missed!!

Rome Night Segway Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was a lot of fun. Our family of 5 greatly enjoyed it. I was a little skeptical about driving a Segway (I am a 65-year-old woman) but it turned out to be fairly easy. Our guide, Ozi, from Turkey did a great job and was so patient with teaching me. We saw many of the sights illuminated: the Pantheon; Trevi Fountain; Piazza Navonne. I would definitely recommend this tour. Rome nights are very beautiful!!

Skip the Line: Florence in One Day Sightseeing Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Florence is beautiful and this was a great way to see it. We were skeptical about the bus ride vs the high speed train but found it was an opportunity to rest and to see the beautiful countryside. Dario from Dark Rome tours was our tour leader and did a great job taking care of us. We arrived in Florence around 11 AM and were taken on a walking city tour by Francesca (I think) a local tour guide. It was great to have head sets to hear her. She had a wealth of information to share about her city. She took us to the famed Ponte Vecchio; the duomo of the beautiful church there; and the markets. We had lunch at a delightful restaurant that served bruschetta and pasta and a chicken dish. All very tasty.(pasta best). We had an opportunity to shop a little which was nice. Then we went to the Academia Gallery to see the famed sculpture, David. Our bus ride back went smoothly and Dario entertained us with a game challenge. The meeting and ending point of the trip, the Piazza del Popolo, is a very central and easy point in the city. Definitely a good experience.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums Walking Tour including Sistine Chapel, Raphael's Rooms and St Peter's

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

It is very nice to take a skip the line tour. So many were waiting in line and we just went on through. It was great to have headsets to hear our tour guide. There was so much to see and the guide had a lot to tell us. Dark Rome tours did an excellent job. We will be going back to Rome and the Vatican in March 2014 and look forward to seeing again all the beautiful things. Raphael's rooms were really more impressive to us that the Sistine Chapel. and of course, St. Peter's Basilica is a must to see.

Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este Half-Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We didn't rate this tour as highly as we had to share the tour guide with two other languages. This seemed to mean we would only get 1/3 of the information possible to be given. However, Hadrian's villa was beautiful. We especially enjoyed Villa d'Este as they were beautiful gardens. I would definitely recommend this as a tour destination but for English speaking people I would recommend going with this tour operator. (They cater to English speakers plus have head sets to hear the guides information).

Pompeii Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was our first all-day trip with Dark Rome tours and it was great. Dario, our tour leader, along with another woman (sorry I forgot her name) were very knowledgeable and took very good care of us. The combination of climbing Mount Vesuvius and then touring the ruins of Pompeii with a native guide was excellent. Our drive back to Rome was fun with a special rest stop where we all tasted native lemoncelli. I would highly recommend this tour.

Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour: Underground Chambers, Arena and Upper Tier

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was our first tour in Rome and was better than expected. We especially appreciated having headsets to hear our guide at all times. It was neat to be able to enter the underground chambers and arena as well as great views from the upper tier. It was a beautiful day in Rome which made it even more magnificent. We were disappointed to find that The forum was closed to visitors but the guide made up for it by sharing other interesting info and taking us to the end at Palatine Hill. Rome and its ruins are spectacular.

They sent a SuperShuttle to pick us up instead of a private sedan. That meant three other people went with us with one pickup after ours. We were picked up early (we were ready) and got there in good time. The driver did a good job.

San Francisco, California

My Review

We had a great time. The driver/guide picked us up on time. He was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. The woods were beautiful and the three wineries very nice with enough difference in them to make it a lot of fun. Andy, our guide, made good recommendations for lunch and enabled us to get off in Sausalito at the end of the day to extend our trip in a fun way. I would highly recommend this tour.

San Francisco Hop-on Hop-off Ticket and Alcatraz Tour

San Francisco, California

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

The trip to Alcatraz was great. The Hop on-Hop Off was a good way to get around. However, the wait time was 30 minutes which seemed longer than most other similar tour organizers. (15-20 min). Two times we could not get on one of the buses as they did not have enough room. I can't imagine what it would be like in the summer. The guides had a fair amount of information to share to make it interesting. However, SF is compact enough for the three of us to have taken taxis perhaps more economically. San Francisco is a great place to visit and using this tour helped to orient us.

It was easy to contact the driver and he came quickly. Smooth trip into San Francisco. There was an additional $12 airport fee for us. I don't think that would be charged on the SuperShuttle: somewhat of a hidden and unexpected cost.

Boston Hop-on Hop-off Trolley Tour

Boston, Massachusetts

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We enjoyed our trip to Boston and this tour made it easier to get around. Included in the ticket was a visit to the State House ($7 ordinarily) and the Tea Party Museum($25 ordinarily). This made it a very good value. Also the fee covered 7 days of use since it was winter season. We used it for 2 days but not consecutively which was nice. The tour guides had interesting stories about what we were seeing and could do.
