Both lakes were wonderful! Nice sunny day, too!
Tour started later than expected - seemed to be some sort of mix up about the vehicle - which meant we had a short-than-expected time at each venue.
The driver/guide provided a reasonably good commentary, but told us that he wasn't very familiar with the tour and had only visited MoraineLake once before, and only for a few minutes. I appreciate that we all have to learn our trade, but he appeared "uncomfortable" at times. He insisted that each pair of/individual tourers told the whole minibus their names, where they were from, why they were in Canada and why they had taken the trip - but because of the engine noise and, presumably, that he was supposed to be watching the road, this was a difficult process and clearly some people felt uncomfortable with this idea - me included. I was travelling on my own and happened to sit next to another person who was travelling on their own - but the assumption was that the "pairs" were together! Some of the tourers didn't understand english very well and therefore struggled with what he was asking them. While I assume this was an effort to make everyone feel part of the trip, I feel it detracted from the beautiful scenery and peoples' natural inclination about talking to one another.
Also, the trip advertises "refreshments/snacks" - this turned out to be water (in coloured plastic cups) and biscuits (one each) from a fairly battered biscuit tin. I think "refreshments" suggests a selection and/or something more than tap water and a biscuit.
Having made all those observations, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake were worth the visit! I am glad I booked the trip - I would have hated to have missed the Lakes.
It was raining all day, but this didn't detract from the visit - so worthwhile!
I was concerned at the start of the trip as, although I had pre-booked and had confirmation from you of the date and time of the pick up from Victoria, when I queued for the bus/coach, the trip vendors on the roadside, had just continued to sell tickets so that the coach was full and there were many of us "left over". However, eventually the situation was resolved as they sent another vehicle. I suppose I was just surprised that although I had pre-booked, it was no guarantee I would get on the coach on the day and time I had booked.
I liked the flexibility of the return time - was really good as it meant that I could do as much (I did!) or as little as I wanted and just arrive in time for one of the return coaches.
Lovely lovely, overall, and well worth the visit!
