Gibraltar Sightseeing Day Trip from Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, Spain

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

There was not enough free time in Gibraltar, once you took time out for having lunch. This was a day trip, but our pick-up wasn't until 9.45am - starting an hour earlier would have given the extra free time for looking around and shopping. Our tour of the Rock consisted of pulling up on the road side to see Europa Point -even though it was possible to drive to the Point - and visiting St Michael's Cave - everything else you saw through the window as the bus drove past.

Granada - The Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens

Costa del Sol, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Well worth doing. The Alhambra Palace and the Generalife Gardens are beautiful. The Palace would be even better if at least some of the rooms were furnished to show what they would have looked like. Watch out for pick-pockets in the Albaycin, though - one of our group was targeted, but we managed to catch the offenders!

Ronda and Tajo Gorge Day Trip from the Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Fabulous vistas of the countryside, the bridge over the gorge and the sections of town perched on the cliffs. The bullring was well worth the visit, too. It would have been nice to have more free time in the town - particularly as we had an unnecessary coffee and toilet break both coming and going - we were only 15 minutes out of Ronda both times!

Seville Day Trip from the Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

A long time on the bus - must have been 3 hours in either direction. The Santa Cruz District (the old Jewish Quarter) was lovely, with its narrow laneways and little plazas. The Cathedral is very impressive, and you can't miss the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Don't waste your free time by doing the river cruise - all of the buildings of note are set back from the river and are obscured by trees. The Royal Palace is still used by the current King, and would have been a much better use of our free time.

Montserrat Royal Basilica Half-Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating

My Review

Fantastic! Fabulous views, fabulous walks. The monastery is in an amazing position. If you want to hear the choir sing at 1.00p.m. then be in the church at least 30 minutes before hand or you'll barely get through the front door due to the crowds.

Tarragona and Sitges Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Needed more time in Tarragona, as the guided tour was quite rushed - it would have been nice to have some free time. In contrast, there was too much free time in Sitges as there is not all that much too see.

Girona, Figueres and Dali Museum Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Excellent tour guide on the bus. Walking tour of Girona was informative, but all you got to see was a lot of stone walls and no interiors. The Dali Museum in Figueres was excellent. Had plenty of time in Figueres and not enough in Girona.

Avila and Segovia Day Trip from Madrid

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Surrounded by it's medieval walls, Avila looks amazing. Unfortunately, no free time at all. Couldn't even buy a souvenir. The Roman Aqueduct at Segovia is awe-inspiring, and the castle well worth the visit. The tour took us to a damascene workshop, but this was more about sucking you in to buy things than anything else. We were there for nearly an hour - I would have preferred some free time in Avila.

Madrid Super Saver: El Escorial Monastery and Toledo Day Trip from Madrid

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

This was advertised as a day trip, but it was actually two half-day trips. At the end of the visit to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen, you are taken back to Madrid for a very ordinary lunch and 'free time'. You then go back to the pick-up point at Plaza Espana and set off for Toledo. El Escorial is very impressive, but you are not allowed to take photos inside and we were given no time at all for taking photos of the exterior - which was quite disappointing, particularly as we were given more time than needed at the Valley of the Fallen. That is an amazing monument, and it still gives the Spanish some angst. Lunch back in Madrid was probably the worst we had on any of our day trips where it was included. I am sure Toledo had lots to see, but if it did then we didn't see it. We spent a lot of time in a big souvenir store, which no doubt gave a kickback to the tour operators.

Madrid City Sightseeing and Royal Palace Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

As new arrivals in Madrid, this tour was worth doing - except for the long break at the Hard Rock Café, which was really all about kickbacks for the tour company. The walking part was the best, particularly the Royal Palace. On the bus, you drive past lots of sights which you only get to see from the bus window as you go past. It would be nice to stop for a few minutes so you can take some decent pictures.

Madrid Tapas Night Walking Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Absolutely loved this tour, even though we had only flown in from Australia a few hours before hand and were exhausted. The guide was fabulous, it was a small group and everyone spoke English. The tapas was delicious, although in some cases I would have preferred not to know what I was eating. The variety of drinks that went with it were nice, too.
