Alice Springs, concludes Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia
Cool drive in a brand new bus driven by a lady who talked to us all the journey long about the environment and what we were expected to see at the end. Special joke when you see the first rock at the horizon... Two stops all along to stretch legs and buy a coffee: we experienced a short and cheap camel ride in one of them, and a young kangaroo picture in the other one...
This was great! The first day is more "classic" for the average tourits, although it is well scheduled, the time is well occupied, the driver gave very interesting comments all the day long. We selected the crocodile hotel option and it was great, good food, relaxing small swimming pool. The second day in Arnhem was much more specific of the aborigenal culture, history, life, landscape. In a more remote part, we had a very instructive and documented talk by the driver about paintings, life, education, belief, burial, of aborigenal people of this particular place, as well as discussion on the issues of the revolution that european people arrival was for them and today's attempts to solve the problems.
The logistics was great, with fresh fruits under a tree the morning, and picnic on the shore of a billabong with beautiful sight and lot of birds. We also saw a croc on the way crossing the river.
For me the 2 days option is better than 1 day.
Although a bit far from Sydney, the journey was not boring thanks to driver's comments. Activities on the place are also exciting, as you can do things that you don't have the opportunity to do, like making noise with a "fouet" to gather sheeps, seing sheep dogs in action, seeing sheep wool cutting, etc. The comments of the animator were also interesting to learn about these things. One of the good moments was the dampers and billy tea close to the outside fireplace!. More disappointing was the BBQ, as it was inside and limited to a piece of meat (nevertheless extremely good and well cooked) and salad...
We keep a good feeling of this typical trip and came back with a piece of australian wool!
