Neuschwanstein Castle Small Group Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

This was not a SMALL group tour as advertised with 30 + people on the tour. Most times it was difficult to locate our guide. Perhaps the guide should carry some kind of a flag to we could spot where she was. This tour is titled, Neuschwanstein Castle Small Group Day Tour but we only spent about 45 minutes in the castle. Most of our time was spent traveling on trains and buses and little narrative talks along the way walking to where our guide asked if we wanted to walk to the castle or take the bus. We took the bus and our granddaughter walked. In the future your guides should explain how VERY DIFFICULT this walk to the castle would be. An experienced hiker on this tour told us that this was one of the most difficult 'hikes' she ever went on and that the grade was relentless! My granddaughter even helped a man who vomited on the way up the grade. People were complaining that the guide should have expressed how difficult this hike was and only those in good physical should attempt it. Our guide was very nonchalant about this walk up.

On the way down we then asked our guide if she thought we should take the bus back or is it easier walking down the trail, since it was a different trail than the one used to go up to the castle. She said it was an easy walk down and it would take only about 15 minutes. NOT SO! It took us 45 minutes due to a very steep grade going down. My husband uses a cane and I m surprised Yolanda didn't firmly suggest that we take the bus back, too.

All in all, we did not like this tour, nor our guide and would NOT recommend it to anyone.

This was an excellent tour with a very informative guide. Our only suggestion would be that the guide wait until everyone has reached him before he started talking about a particular site. This only happened a couple of times - Cesar was really great!
