Don't kid yourself - this is a 7 hour (total) drive on the autobahn with all the excitement that goes with highway driving. The guide spends the drive pointing out the towns that you are passing and what you would see if you were to actually go there. There are only two stops; Harburg Castle for 1 hour and a 3 hour stop in Rothenburg. The castle is mildly interesting but there was nowhere to get morning tea so make sure you take it with you if you don't want to starve.
When you get to Rothenburg don't eat in the recommended restaurant as it will take at least 45 minutes to get your meal and then when you go to pay you find out that it's cash only. Another person on this tour had their card thrown back at them when they tried to pay with their card. The fact that it's cash only was not mentioned by the guide and is not advertised anywhere on the menu or in the restaurant. Do yourself a favour and go to any other place to eat but this one.
If you get motion sickness you might want to give this tour a miss. We turned up 35 minutes early, got into the queue and when we got on the bus and said that one of our party gets severely sick so needed to sit at the front the guide just said "too bad, the seats are taken, you should have got here earlier". Friendly and compassionate they are not. Or maybe they like people vomiting in their buses. We ended up on the second bus and got front seats there.
So, all in all this wasn't a great trip and though Rothenburg is a cute little place I don't think the hassle was worth my time or money and would have preferred to be anywhere but on that trip.
A lovely drive in the mountains and some great views. The let down was where we stopped. We seem to stop in random towns where there was nothing much to do or see. It was unclear as to why we stopped there other than it was convenient time-wise for breaks and food. The guide was nice enough but didn't really seem to want to be there which always makes in harder to enjoy the day and get interested in what we are doing and seeing.
If you go don't forget to take up warm jackets and jumpers as it was a warm day in Venice but it was freezing up in the mountains. Yes, we froze but now have souvenir hoodies to remember the day by!
A short walking tour that tells you the history of the square and it's building followed by a short walk to another square and some more history. You are then given your ticket for the tower tour and told where to go for that. There was some interesting history but I could've learned it all from the guidebook and the signs around the square.
