The museum is very worth visiting, but at least during the holiday season the "skip the line" doesn't work - "fast track"/"skip the line" still meant waiting for about 45 minutes... (although people in the normal line even had to wait longer). Without the pre-booked ticket I wouldn't have felt obliged to wait and would have postponed my visit in the Van Gogh museum to another trip in Amsterdam.
The place is georgious, but the service part of the tour was relatively badly organized. I was the only English-speaking participant (I booked the English tour!) on the hotel pick-up and later on the PeruRail bus. The guide gave lengthy explanations in Spanish (probably why for example we had to drive in a bus for 1.5 hours instead of taking the train) and when I asked her for at least an English summary her response was that her English was too bad and I should wait until at Machu Picchu where my English-speaking guide would tell me everything.... The Machu Picchu guide luckily spoke English, but was rather reluctant to do so, so compared to all the other guides I saw with other groups I think I did not get hear much background information on Machu Picchu (and of course he would not tell me about the problems with the train tracks). I assume that this was just bad luck, but still it wasn't very pleasant. However, the place is great and so it definitely is a must-do activity.
The guide was great and amazingly I was the only participant. However, there were places I wish we could have stopped as least briefly to get some picutures taken - with some sights it was just a quick drive-past... That was a pity, especially as the number of great/interesting sights in Lima is relatively limited, anyway - so 5 stars for the tour guide, 3 stars for the overall organization.
