The place is georgious, but the service part of the tour was relatively badly organized. I was the only English-speaking participant (I booked the English tour!) on the hotel pick-up and later on the PeruRail bus. The guide gave lengthy explanations in Spanish (probably why for example we had to drive in a bus for 1.5 hours instead of taking the train) and when I asked her for at least an English summary her response was that her English was too bad and I should wait until at Machu Picchu where my English-speaking guide would tell me everything.... The Machu Picchu guide luckily spoke English, but was rather reluctant to do so, so compared to all the other guides I saw with other groups I think I did not get hear much background information on Machu Picchu (and of course he would not tell me about the problems with the train tracks). I assume that this was just bad luck, but still it wasn't very pleasant. However, the place is great and so it definitely is a must-do activity.
The guide was great and amazingly I was the only participant. However, there were places I wish we could have stopped as least briefly to get some picutures taken - with some sights it was just a quick drive-past... That was a pity, especially as the number of great/interesting sights in Lima is relatively limited, anyway - so 5 stars for the tour guide, 3 stars for the overall organization.
