The only thing bad about the trip was that the pick up site was not where the ticket said it was and if it had not been for an observant Copenhagen information lady at the tourist office we would have missed the tour. Now the good part...Our guide Gordon was an American who lived in Denmark and was an expert on Danish history as well as being a fabulous presenter. The double decker bus gave us great views and was so comfortable. North Zealand is a beautiful countryside and seaside area with castles that rival any in Europe. With this tour we really felt we got to know the area outside Copenhagen and it enhanced our experience greatly. We had a good, but a bit frenzied lunch with so many people crowded in a small restaurant. We certainly were given ample time at the castles and were especially awed by "Hamlet's" castle on a point with it's breathtaking views of the sea. We would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone who has an extra day in Copenhagen.
While the card was very useful it was a bit difficult to understand all the transport options and how to use them. We lost valuable time in this regard. Having access to so many places was great but a bit overwhelming. We went to many places that were free without the card and squandered chances to visit sites that would have cost money to enter had we not had it. Lesson learned, look for entry fee sites covered by the card and do the free stuff when the card expires.
Our guide Urban gave us a an exceptional private tour of the area around Stockholm, since we were the only ones booked. Our 6 hours turned into 8 hours as we had the chance to explore at a more leisurely pace. One of the highlights that we will long remember was going to a private farm and enjoying refreshments with the owner and learning about her life in rural Sweden. The Uppsala burial mounds and the old Uppsala Church at the site was another memorable part of the day. It was our favorite church in all of the ones we visited around the Baltic. At our stop in the beautiful very ancient town of Sigtuna we had over an hour to explore on our own and eat lunch in a flower filled patio. Then there were the runes and visiting so many sites where they stood, along the road sides, deep in the forest and up on a farmer's hill, We really got a deep sense of the history we were witnessing. This is one tour not to be misses!!!
