Our guide was amazing. The roman forum was my favourite part and the colosseum was my partner's favourite. The guide was friendly, well informed and really brought the place to life. A must do. You'll see all the sights and more.

What is a visit to Rome without seeing the Vatican? So obviously you need to do it. Our guide was friendly, well informed and helpful. The Sistine Chapel impressed me the most. It was breathtaking.

Lake Como Day Trip from Milan

Milan, Italy

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

The scenery is beautiful. But Como and Bellagio were a bit boring. Beautiful, of course, but how many beautiful places do you see in Europe? Loads. Getting nice food that didn't cost a limb was difficult in Bellagio. Great photo ops, but if its not on your bucket list you can give it a miss.

Skip the Line: Small-Group Milan Walking Tour with da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' Tickets

Milan, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Our guide was lovely, familiar with the area and passionate about the culture. The Duomo wouldn't have been the same without her, nor would have the Last Supper. Her understanding, appreciation and explanation of art made us all richer for the experience. I left feeling I had learnt something.

Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

The tour guide had quite a thick accent, which was fine except she spoke incredibly fast and it was hard to understand. The islands are beautiful but you could probably do it alone and have more time to enjoy the locations. If you don't want to do much planning and are short of time it's good.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Walking Tour

Berlin, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was an amazing tour. We had a tour guide called Ashleigh and she really brought the camp to life for us, which was sad, of course, but gave us a much greater appreciation for the suffering of others and also a much greater appreciation how lucky we are in our own lives. It felt weird having lunch there, when you thought of how many people had starved to death and also I felt uncomfortable with the people taking happy snaps because it felt a little disrespectful, but to each their own. For us, this wasn't a tourist destination. It is a memorial and a lot of thought and consideration has gone into making sure the exhibitions are appropriate and inclusive, which is fabulous. It was throughly worthwhile. We are very glad we did it. I feel richer for the experience. Ashleigh had extensive knowledge and understanding of the camp and its operations, as well as the regime in itself and camps further afield, which was very enlightening. She also recommended a book by Pindera, a Polish prisoner of the camp, which can be bought at the book shop. It was an incredible read.

Small-Group Amsterdam Bike Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We had a really friendly tour guide. She could tell I was petrified, as I had not ridden a bike in 10 years, and did her best to look after me. It was a great way to see and experience the city. It was my favourite experience in Amsterdam and I am very glad to have done it. I was surprised we didn't have to wear helmets.

Skip-the-Line Eiffel Tower Ticket in Paris

Paris, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Not really a tour, but worthwhile skipping the line. We got a little bit of historic commentary below the Eiffel Tower, which was good. Then we were sent on out merry way, which was also good. My only advice is, take a jacket. It is windy and cold up there!

Our tour guide, Ibai -some American lady accidentally called him eBay- was amazing; knowledgeable and friendly. If there were artworks we were particularly interested in and pointed them out he would go over them with us in detail and answer all of our questions. I don't think I would have enjoyed the Lourve as much, or learnt as much, without him. Art seemed to be something he was passionate about and had a real appreciation for, and this was infectious.

Skip the Line: Versailles Palace and Gardens Walking Tour

Paris, France

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

This was the only tour I had been disappointed with. It was a wet and rainy day and the head pieces didn't seem to be working properly. They were changed, then the transmitter was changed... All together this took about three goes and half hour. Then we were rushed through the gardens - I am 25 and couldn't keep up, much less the older people- not having time to appreciate the beauty or take photos. Half the group, including myself, lost the guide. The ear pieces kept fading out. I was frustrated as were many others and we told our guide, who either didn't understand or care, because we kept rushing. I know we were running late because of technical issues but geez! One lady had said she had wanted to do Versailles for 35 years and she was so upset. I wish I had just got an audio guide. The place itself is amazing. And I'm sure the tour guide is great usually too. It was just bad weather, bad timing and yeah - I hope you had a better experience than me.
