Private Tour: Imperial Rome Art History Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Luca was extraordinary. Amazing depth of knowledge. His English is excellent. A wonderful guide. The Coliseum part of the tour is awesome. I remember visiting in the early 80's and the Coliseum was in real disrepair. The difference is stunning. Luca pointed out so many cool yet subtle things that would go by unseen if they were not pointed out by a guide.
The Forum part of the tour requires some moderate walking and stair-climbing but is quite doable. A real shame that everyone pillaged this incredible bit of history over the years.
In summary, Luca was great and if you can afford it, this is the only way to see Imperial Rome.

Gianluigi Gigi was our guide. Bubbly, charming and really, really knowledgable. Excellent English. My wife asked him about a random piece of art at the beginning of our tour. His answer was so wonderful and deep that we knew we were in for an amazing tour. It only got better. He understood the art not just as a historian but also as someone who found total joy being surrounded by inconceivable amounts of genius. He beamed every time he pointed out a subtly that would go by unnoticed if it were not pointed out to the casual observer.
I saw the Sistine Chapel years ago before the restoration. To see it in its current state is breath taking. Before it was dark but now the colors and the art can't be described.
Let's face it, the popes knew who to hire to do their art work.
We went on Good Friday and the museum was quite crowded and the Basilica was closed for Easter preparations.
If you can afford a private tour, skipping the line with Gigi is absolutely the only way to see the Vatican Museums.

Copenhagen Food Tour

Maria was our guide. Maria was awesome!! Her English is flawless and she has a charming dry Danish sense of humor all wrapped up in the local ubiquitous modesty. Exceptionally knowledgeable and totally committed to extraordinary organic and sustainable Nordic food. The group size was seven. Our fellow tour takers were really nice. We started at a two building indoor food marketplace featuring dozens and dozens of extraordinary and unique stands. Foods from all parts of Denmark. Everything was better than good.
A trip to the botanical gardens to to learn about the local honey. Off to the microbrewery to sample Danish craft beer. Sat down and ate open-faced sandwiches the local lunch food which is undergoing a resurgence. Saw Danish hard candy being hand made really cool. Finished with sweets at the market. There were other things but you get the point.
We are foodies. We flew to Copenhagen specifically to eat at Restaurant Noma. Was I ever surprised to learn what a great food city Copenhagen has become. We have done other food tours including Paris. This is the best so far and Maria was the best possible guide.

Our first trip to London. David was extraordinary in the scope of his knowledge of London information. He knew everything from the Roman period of occupation to the Norman conquest to Shakespeare to Doctor Who to all the royalty trivia. He customized the trip to our interests. Took me at my request so I could see the Globe theatre. Can't recommend him and the tour enough. Only way to see London for the first time. Ask for David.

Alexandra was tres magnifique!!!. She was knowledgeable, charming and fun. The area we visited held so many endearing little secrets that we would never have found without her. She learned of our love of the movie Amelie and she took us to many of the scenes where it was filmed. Fun wine and food on a perfect Paris spring day. Recommended without reservations and most highly!! Ask for Alexandra.
