The Giverny tour was wonderful, giving us time to wander through the gardens on our own, and lunch at Moulin de Fourges was excellent.
After an hour in the lineup to get into Versailles palace, we discovered that our guide's microphone wasn't working, so we missed most of her commentary during the tour. Then, because we ran out of time, we totally missed the Fountain Show, which was the reason we booked the Saturday tour. Disappointing, to say the least.
The whole tour was enlightening and sobering. The Caen Memorial brought history to the fore and was very heart wrenching. Our only disappointment was the 15 minute stop at Juno Beach: too late to see the Centre there and no time to wander where our soldiers fought and died. Then, to bypass the Canadian Cemetery with hardly a comment was insulting. Viator needs to acknowledge that many countries
besides USA took part in this war.
Our guide, Sebastien, was absolutely terrific. He provided historical commentary throughout and was able to relate stories of local participation during the war. His knowledge of the area and the time period made the tour a highlight of our trip. Our time at the Vimy memorial will be a favourite memory. Thanks, Sebastien.
