No point doing this tour in November as the train up to Nuria doesn't run due to maintenance which is a big shame as I think this would have been the highlight of the day. This tour has the ability to be a really, really great tour but unfortunately on our day it wasn't. Our tour guide was Nico who is a friendly chap and very knowledgeable but spends too much time on his mobile - even when driving.....! Nico, get off your phone and talk to your group a bit more!
The towns on the tour are really lovely quaint towns but I think we spent too much time in Vic. I would recommend doing this tour on a Saturday as Vic apparently have a market in the town square.
It was snowing when we got up to the Pyrenees so really beautiful. We we're giving a couple of hours free time and we were told to go that way for walks or go that way to the restaurant...not much info given.
Nice, small tour though but can be improved a lot.
I was disappointed in this tour as I was expecting an amazing day out having read all the previous reviews. Maybe it was just an off day as the morning seemed very disorganised with nobody knowing what bus to get on and then we had to wait 30mins for another bus to arrive as the first one was full. In my opinion there were two many people, I think there were 40 people on my tour and when we went to visit the small chocolate shop it was just ridiculous. Our tour guide wasn't enthusiastic at all, he gave very little information and I just think he didn't want to be there at all! Ghent and Bruges are both lovely cities but I would recommend doing it yourself or with a smaller tour group.
Munich, concludes Frankfurt, Germany
Everyone has to see the Romantic Road! It is just simply beautiful. If I were to do it again I would do it myself. Don't get me wrong this tour was very well organised and I didn't have any problems, but on the second day you don't have many bus stops so miss so many great villages.
Previous reviews commented on the confusion at the bus stop on the first morning, I thought it was relatively straight forward. There were 3 buses all going to the same place and the difference was the language spoken on board. The bus drivers are really friendly so just ask and they will point you to the correct bus. The first day is also linked with the Royal Castles one day trip so when we stopped for lunch, those staying overnight, checked into hotels and then continued with the group for the rest of the afternoon. I stayed at Hotel Muller and loved it - nice food and good character. The second day was a long day travelling, we started at 8am and arrived in Rothenberg approx. 4pm. 2hrs of this day were spent heading to Munich which is a pain, though you don't miss any of the romantic road. The third day we were picked up at 4pm and arrived in Frankfurt at 8pm. All of the transfers from and to the bus stops were very prompt and we had no hassles whatsoever.
Overall, we enjoyed this independent tour but would recommend others to hire a car and spend a couple of extra days exploring more villages.
