Los Angeles Hop-on Hop-off Double Decker Bus Tour

Los Angeles, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We used the 48 hour ticket to help us get around LA and see as much as we could on our Silver Wedding trip in August/September. Believe me it was money well spent. Yes you can use the subway but not every site is handy for a station, also you miss out on so much that happens every day as you move around the streets and districts of LA. While we were there it was unseasonably hot and sunny which can be a problem if you are on the upper deck and not covered up, if you do go during summer months make sure you have a hat or something to cover your head. Most of the stops are well signposted so you know where to wait for the bus. Be aware however the streets do get very busy with traffic in the rush hour and what may take you 15 minutes in quiet times can take well over an hour in peak times, always build that into your plans if you have to be somewhere at a certain time. We use the Hop On Hop Off service in every major city we visit, this was one of the best we have used.

Steamboat Natchez Harbor Cruise

New Orleans, Louisiana

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This is truely the only way to travel in New Orleans. We chose the cruise only option without any food. It gave us the flexibility to move around the boat and take the photos we wanted when the time suited us. The day was overcast and it did rain a little while we were travelling but it did not spoil the day for us. Some of the shoreline can be a bit "industrial" but overall the trip was well worth the money. The highlight for us was actually before we boarded the boat. About 10 minutes before boarding starts someone "plays" the steam whistle organ on the top of the boat. It was spectacular to watch and really fun to listen too.

New York Dinner Cruise

New York City, New York

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We took this cruise to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary, we took the guarateed window table option so we could watch the city go by. When we left at 7pm the city was in full daylight, as the cruise progessed it became dusk and then dark, the changes in the lighting etc were really fun to watch. The meal was exceptional, the service superb and the fact they left time between each course so we could go out to take photograpghs was a really nice touch. Seeing the NY skyline from a different perspective was a real eye opener for both my wife and I. The boat was excellent and so smooth while travelling. As you could move around the boat you could see both sides of the Hudson and see the differences in the 2 boroughs.

We did this trip because it was our anniversary night but I would recommend anyone visiting NY should consider doing this during their visit.

New York City Hop-on Hop-off Tour and Harbor Cruise

New York City, New York

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We used this service for 48 hours during our stay in NY. While it my be possible to use the subway not every tourist location is handy for a subway station and using the bus means you get to see a lot more of NY daily life on the streets. While we were there it was very hot and sunny which can be an issue if you are on the upper deck and not covered up. Always remember to take a hat or something similar to cover your head unless you want to get really burnt. The streets of NY can get very busy during rush hours, remember this will signifcantly increase the time it takes to get from stop to stop. Build these delays into your schedule if you need to be somewhere specific at a particular time.

The guides on the buses are very informative and rely on tips for a large part of their salary, remember you will see several different guides during each day as you change buses, it can add up considerably if you tip each one.

We use the Hop On Ho Off buses in every major city we visit, this was well worh the cost of the ticket.

Shared Arrival Transfer: New York Airports to Hotel

New York City, New York

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

After collecting our luggage we made our way to the desk to report in as advised. We were told it would be about 20 minutes before our bus would be ready and they would call us when they arrived. After 40 minutes I asked what the delay was, the girl on the desk rang through and said the driver would be there in less than 10 minutes, she apologised for the delay. 15 Minutes later I went back again, she tried ringing again but this time could not get through to anyone or at least no one who would answer the phone. Eventually over an hour after we checked in our number was called and we made our way to the bus. This in itself took over 10 minutes and the guide/driver stopped to talk to just about everyone on the way through the terminal.

Once on the bus the journey was very smooth and quite quick, however our inital view was unfortunately of a disorganised and unprofessional system.
