Tours of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein were pretty basic and fairly short. Thought we would spend more time inside the castles. Regardless, it was still very good. Detailed information about King Ludwig II. Stop at Oberammergau was really nice for shopping. Got stuck in traffic jam going and Tour Guide rescheduled the time for our Neuschwanstein Tour. Also tour guide had reserved tables for lunch at our expense - very nice restaurant and very fast service to allow maximum time in town and for tour.
After researching the reviews on Viator, I booked this tour from Naples instead of from Rome because this tour from Rome included taking a bus from Rome to Naples ~ 3 hours each way which would have been uncomfortable. I made separate train reservations (Rail Europe) in advance which turned out to be a great move. We took NTV train from Rome to Naples (~ 1.5 hours) - easy and comfortable. Picked up tour in Naples right outside the Train Station in front of the STAR HOTELS TERMINUS (hotel). We were bused from there to POMPEII. POMPEII tour was awesome. Exceptional tour guide (Andrea - sp?) - with great historical insights and combined with some humor. Our Tour included Lunch - very nice restaurant - choice of Speghetti or Pizza - basic but good. Then bused to Mt. Vesuvius. Great experience. Hiked up path to top of cone to see inside crater. Outstanding views of Bay of Naples. Fast Paced - but GREAT. Would recommend to Tour Company starting tour earlier (started at 10AM) and allow more time at Mt. Vesuvius. Highly Recommend!
HIGHEST RATING: on a scale of 1-10, this tour should be rated an 11. The Viator tour description doesn't do justice to the scope of this tour. During our visit to Rome (June-July), we booked 3 tours:
1- Skip the Line: Vatican in One Day, (Rating: 5+)
2- Small-Group Ancient Rome and Colosseum Tour: Underground Chambers, Arena and Upper Tier (Rating: 5)
3- Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour. (Rating: 4.5)
All the tours were conducted by Dark Rome and all exceeded my expectatons, but this tour was the Best of all. In the morning we covered the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. In the afternoon, we covered other important Basilicas around Rome including Santa Maria Maggiore, Saint John Lateran and St. Paul. We saw the HOLY STAIRS. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and well versed in the history of all the sites. We were introduced to the 4 HOLY DOORS across the Basilicas.
Regardless of how much time you have in Rome - YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS TOUR - it doesn't get any better than this. ENJOY!
COOL ! I rate this tour between 4-5 stars. We toured Domitilla Catacombs underneath the Appian Way, then toured Basilica of San Clemente, and lastly visited the Capuchin Crypt (which was in downtown Rome in a building much to my surprise). Exceptional tour guide and commentary. Provided interesting historical insights into the beginnings of Christianity and Christain burial traditions. Really GOOD tour.
Simply OUTSTANDING! The tour of the Colosseum was very comprehensive. The access to the restricted areas of the lower and upper tiers were awesome (and really restricted to the general public). Our tour guides (Eileen and Marina - spelling ?) were absolutely GREAT. They provided exceptional commentary throughout the tour. It was clear that both were polished and new the history of the places extremely well. After the Colosseum, we proceeded to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Again, exceptional commentary from our guide (Eileen). We skipped long lines to access the Colosseum and Forum/Palatine Hill area. I highly recommend this tour, it is well worth the price. Thanks for the Exceptional Experience.
