Barcelona Zoo Entrance Ticket

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

Altogether there were too many "missing" animals and empty spots. I believe the entire zoo showed its age and the state of the Spanish economy probably has something to do with it. It would have been better for us if the entrance employees mentioned the lack of refreshment options. There were limited places to sit and observe areas. Perhaps our problem was comparing it to Portland, Oregon's zoo which was phenomenal.

Montserrat Royal Basilica Half-Day Trip from Barcelona

My Review

The first problem was no assistance in getting on/off the tour bus. I use a cane; the steps were steep. Previous tour groups I have taken, such assistance has always been given by the driver. Perhaps European tour groups don't offer it but it was annoying and very unsafe. The cog railway was interesting to me because previous cog railways have been true railways - not subway type cars.
We enjoyed the historical information that was provided and wished more time was given to that. The Basilica and surrounding buildings were unbelievably beautiful; the local folks selling local products were friendly, most willing to answer questions about their products and lifestyle. Still shaking our heads over the amazing history and abilities of the area to survive.

Horseback Riding Tour in Natural Park from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Our personal guide was delightful. Due to the heat of the day and how it affected me, I was unable to partake of the riding tour. My grandson was treated royally. He learned the history of the Spanish horse he was to ride, took part in preparing for the experience by grooming the horse and fitting saddle to horse. The instructor prepared him by training in the "ring". Then the two of them went on the riding tour. He was tired and hungry when the two returned to the stable area where the option of cooling down the horse was available. My grandson was hungry so he skipped that. Then we were treated to a delightful light lunch by the guide from "Living It". The pictures the guide and the instructor took were edited and sent directly to my daughter in Utah.
I understand few people take advantage of this opportunity. More should. The personal attention and instruction are amazing. The location is awesome. We learned a lot about the riding school as well.

The directions of where to meet were a problem - info said to meet in front of the business when in reality we were to go inside the business and wait. We were the only ones on our "tour" so that was a big plus as was the guide who knew history of the Born/Spain. The tour itself, in our case, included visiting areas that had absolutely no connection to chocolate. If memory serves me, we really didn't receive a goodie bag per se; one shop gave us 4 pieces, another couple offered us samples to eat. Highlight of the chocolate part according to my grandson was the churro/chocolate/whipped cream offered at the end of the chocolate part of the tour. We both particularly enjoyed the area of the Roman Wall/columns. Since we planned on attending mass on Sunday at the Barcelona Cathedral, the guide helped us locate info on times and mentioned the dancing in the plaza afterward. As an aside that has nothing to do with chocolate tour - we attended both the Catalan mass and the Spanish mass and when we came out were delighted to find the musicians/dancers. Guide makes the difference and ours was excellent.

First stop on the afternoon of our arrival proved to be everything my grandson hoped. Only issue we had was exhaustion so we didn't get to the Camp Nou experience. Wished we could have done that part another day but couldn't figure out who to ask about doing so. Staff at the stadium and museum were most helpful.
