New York City, New York
I loved going up the Empire State building. It really is one of the things I think of as a 'must-do' experience. I know some people say to go up the Rockefeller Center instead, but to me it wouldn't have been the same. We wanted to go up just before sunset, see it through dusk and then once all the lights were on. We were running late getting there, and we are so glad we bought skip the line passes. That may well be our best investment in NYC. In every stage (and there were many, starting at the queues outside the building itself), we showed our tickets and were immediately escorted past the hordes of people (we think we passed well over 500 people getting to the top). Once up there it was amazing to see. The views were simply stunning from light through to darkness. It was windy, but that just added to the atmosphere. We even watched a thunderstorm over New Jersey. We loved being up there. Then after we had come back down we saw people queuing whom we'd passed on out way up, almost an hour and a half before. So I would strongly recommend the skip the line passes if you're short on time or have a real aversion to standing in queue.
