Perfume Workshop in Paris

Paris, France

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

This was a pleasant way to spend a few hours in a beautiful home with a charming perfume designer. I would have liked a little more information about perfumes while we silently created our three samples. But getting a nice bottle of one of our creations was a pleasant surprise. As with other tours I took that day, the directions left me wandering the street for a bit trying to find the apartment. I imagine the other people took taxis and arrived a head of time, but I took the Metro and had to figure out which direction to exit from the Metro so that I was headed the right way. Then after asking someone on the street, I was able to find the street but had a 10-15 min. walk to the address. Once there I was able to enter the street level but didn't know where the second code pad was located. If the direction had said "Go to the courtyard to the right of the elevator, enter 2nd code at the doors located there and proceed up the stairs to the first floor apartment" it would have saved me some time and I would have arrived reasonably on time. Any way another enjoyable experience in Paris that I would recommend.

An enjoyable, rain sprinkled evening!! Benoit was very personable and knowledgeable about some of the dark secrets of Paris! Only negative was that half the group didn't show up at exactly 8:45 as the directions said, so we started almost 30 minutes late. All in all an interesting evening.

Paris Food Walking Tour: Gourmet French Food

Paris, France

My Review

Our guide, Carol (?), being a food writer for magazines, was very knowledgeable
about all the products that we saw in various specialty shops, especially the cheeses.
It was good to learn how to read the French labels to know what was raw milk, pasturized, etc. I can't remember why a portion of the tour, after seeing the plaque to Hemingway, had to be eliminated but all in all everything was delicious and enjoyable. I would recommend it. The only negative was the directions to the starting point. All we were given was the address - 14Ter Blvd. St. Germaine plus Metro stop. If you didn't know that the "Ter" was the small plaza in front of the shops instead of the street address of an apartment building half a block away, you ended up waiting there for a few minutes before the guide came to find you. Seems this confusion happens all the time and caused our group to leave later than expected. Why not include "the small plaza where an outdoor market is located in front of specialty food stores". Any way, enjoyed the talk, walk and food samples!!
