Our night walking tour was very different from what we booked and expected. The tour was described as a 3-hour walking tour to discover Brussels by night, trying traditional foods in local restaurants. What we experienced was very different. Marc the tour company owner, met us at the Grand Place and gave us a brief description of the area. He then told us that he had changed the tour due to significant delays in restaurants, so we were going to his apartment for a traditional meal prepared by his chef. The meal was wonderful with wine pairings but was a bit rushed. We had no time to enjoy the wine as Marc had his jacket on, signaling us that it was time to go for dessert. We walked to the Galleries to a traditional waffle bakery and had the very best fresh waffle with a dusting of icing sugar. All great. The end-result was a very nice quality, tasty dinner and Marc was very interesting and pleasant. We would have appreciated knowing in advance that there was no walking tour. Also given all our dining experiences in Brussels restaurants, I would suggest lowering the price OR adding an actual walking tour.
One item to improve: The tour asked us to confirm by phone. We tried 6 times to call 2 weeks before but there was no answer. After escalating to Viatour, we managed to get an email address so we sent an email but we received no reply. Finally on arrival at our hotel, the concierge called and got through. We expressed this concern to Marc and he acknowledged that he will simplify the process.
This was truly a trip to remember and our guide Paul was outstanding, so very knowledgeable and easy to interact with. Enroute to Luxemburg, we loved the Ardennes countryside with rolling hills and loads of cows. Luxemburg was an interesting city with a combo of the modern European Union Buildings and the charm of the Old Town High and Low Levels. Our walking tour was the very best to give us a real feel for this unique hilled city and took us back in time. Our tour guide led us, but also let us walk as our own pace and take pics at our leisure. His focused yet relaxed nature made this the most enjoyable tour I have experienced in a long time. We had an hour of free time for lunch and an hour for walking around on our own. More free time is always nice but not very realistic to get back to Brussels at a good time. I would highly recommend this tour, 6 Stars.
