Dunajec River Gorge and Niedzica Castle from Krakow

Krakow, Poland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We were fortunate to have our own personal tour guide as there were only 2 of us booked on the trip for that day. Niedzica is a fairytale castle perched on an escarpment with stunning views over the lake and reservoir. The castle is steeped in history with , Jack, our guide having excellent knowledge with facts and figures to hand.
A short drive away through the dramatic countryside, we came to the Dunajec River Gorge "cruise". The transport is unique 5 narrow punts lashed together with ropes and branches and captained by two very colourful locals. The boat holds around 12 people and with around 200 boats is a very popular attraction. The 2 hour + "cruise" unfolds through rolling countryside into steep sided valley cliffs with glimpses of wildlife. We were fortunate to have some very good singers on our boat and were treated to some local folk songs as we meandered down the gorge.Would recommend this tour for the stunning views and history.

Zakopane and Tatras Mountains Day Tour from Krakow

Krakow, Poland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Our guide ,Jack, was superb on this tour. Very knowledgeable on the geography, geology, and fauna of the areas en route to Zakopane. Zakopane is a small town at the foot of the Tatras Mountains is is well known for its large market place with a vast array of hand made crafts and local foods. To reach the summit of one mountain range we took the railway to the top with incredible views of the valley and mountains. Decided to walk back to the village- worthwhile, with even more stunning views on route.Visited the local museum which was fascinating ,as it showed the harsh environment endured by the early occupants. A long journey but worthwhile.

Krakow Super Saver: Auschwitz-Birkenau Half-Day Tour plus Wieliczka Salt Mine Half-Day Tour

Krakow, Poland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This is a tour to which you must have a guide. We were fortunate to have Jon as our guide who is an historian and very passionate and emotional about this part of Poland s History. Although the general history of Auschwitz is known, the facts from our guide really painted the picture as to what it was like inside the camp and the hardships that its inhabitants had to endure. Auschwitz 1 is large but Auschwitz 2 -Birkenau is on a different scale, and demonstrated the systematic and detailed process planned for years by the Third Reich. This is a short drive away with the same tour guide for both camps. The one thing which stuck in my mind throughout the tour was the number of young people visiting the camps and showing their respect to the victims of the holocaust. A very thought provoking tour and a must to see.
