We had a great tour lead by Alaria. She did a wonderful job of explaining things to us and sharing stories of what we were seeing. It was amazing to actually see things in person that previously were just in our history books. Wow, what depth to the culture. You learn that in some ways, even in older times, they were no different than we are today. Playing jokes on each other and paying homage within the context of their paintings. The Sistine Chapel was amazing, but crowded. The Vatican has so much to see. Overall, a lot of history in 3 hours!

Siena and San Gimignano Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Review

Siena was a very interesting town and we enjoyed hearing about the horse race an how the town in divided into districts. It would have been nice if our tour guide Laura wore a headset so we could hear her better. She gave great information but with about 20 people we lost some of the information due to crowd size and noise. San Gimignano was a beautiful mid-evil town and very well preserved. i thought it was gorgeous and it sits atop a hill looking out over a majestic view of Tuscany. It was a beautiful warm day to enjoy the sights.

Cinque Terre Hiking Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Review

From start to finish- a great long day but jam packed with FUN! The bus ride with Alex and Sandra was filled with information and beautiful sights. They did a fabulous job of breaking up the trip and letting us know what we would be doing next. We walked a little and saw the Mediterranean Sea of beautiful sapphire blue. After climbing the many stairs we had a wonderful lunch and then the work began... the 2.5 mile hike from one town to the other. It is beautiful, but also a lot of steps and in the heat, make sure you have water and are in good shape. The views are spectacular and you are rewarded in the end when you arrive in the town and get to have a swimming break. The water was cool but refreshing... take a plunge and rest a bit. They then took us by train to another town and all the sights are charming. Eventually, if the seas aren't too rough, you take a boat back and get to enjoy seeing the town from the water. Each town has its' own charm and they are all places worth checking out. Bring your camera! You arrive home late, but it is a great day different than the normal touring of museums and statues.

Skip the Line: Venice Walking Tour with St Mark's Basilica

This was a wonderful way to explore the streets and back alleys of Venice. Do it early in your trip and you will feel more confidant to walk around and get off the beaten path. The signs are pretty good to get you back to San Marco Square, so explore! The skip the Line at the Basilica was great and it was very helpful to have a guide with audio in your ear to understand more about what we were seeing. This tour helped us understand the history and then the additional 2 days, we were more in tune with what we were seeing and how to get around Venice.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Walking Tour

Berlin, Germany

My Review

This tour was very interesting and our guide was extremely well informed. It was a very sad time in the history of the world, but knowing more about it and seeing what people endured, as difficult as it is, it just seemed like a necessary thing to do. To honor those that perished and suffered. To recognize that this can't happen again. To see and have open dialog and not to cover it up, was impressive to me. So, it is deep and educational. A valuable experience. Note: The price is correct, it seemed very low for an all day tour. You do pay your own train fare ( about 4 euros) and it is nice to tip your guide at the end.

Great tour of Berlin. Seeing the old and the new, the East and the West. All the high points were covered in about 3 hours. You begin to get your compass set as to how to move around Berlin, so do this tour early in your stay. It is hard to believe that the wall stood rather recently and many remember those days. Thankfully, the area seems to be growing and inviting a very diverse culture.
