I was sceptical re booking this trip rather than just booking tickets to the Eiffel Tower in advance on the Eiffel Tower website. I was unsure that the extra cost of this tour was justified. Well having done the tour with my family of 5 I now believe it was very much value for money. When they say "skip the line", that was exactly what happened. From what I saw, pre purchased tickets still required a huge line-up to gain access to the Tower. With our tour group, we were escorted and just went straight up. Also the (English) commentary and background from the guide was excellent - informative, interesting and entertaining.
So, if you have an extended stay in Paris, it is probably OK to buy tickets directly, line up yourself and just take your chances on how long you wait in line. But if like us time in Paris was just a few days and each minute counted, then this tour is well worth it. Also, whilst I was booking tours in Paris, I noticed that some other tours offered access only to the second level and said you could buy your tickets for the summit at the ticket office on this level. However our experience was that we noticed that because the tower was so crowded, this ticket office was closed and no tickets for the summit were being sold from the second level.
