Skip the Line: Vatican Museums Walking Tour including Sistine Chapel, Raphael's Rooms and St Peter's

Rome, Italy

My Review

It was really difficult to find the meeting point. As it is quite a distance from the front of the Vatican which is where most visitors would head. It was thanks to a friendly Indian scarf seller that noticed we were looking lost that we found it. Apart from that the tour and guide were very good, although there were so many people! The Vatican and its treasure were stunning particularly the ceilings and Map room. The Sistine Chapel was amazing but it was disappointing that the tourists were unable to stay quiet.St Peters Basilica was a standout

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

The tour guide for this was a grumpy young lady who treated the expedition like we were an inconvenience to her. There were some elderly people on this tour who had difficulty negotiating the stairs , distances and pace at both sites and this effectively split the group in 2, with some of us assisting the couple. That not withstanding Hadrian's Villa was one of the best preserved and fascinating places we had been to and the sense of Time and place and interesting history of Hadrian makes this for me a " must see "
Villa D'Este was just beautiful the grandeur and spectacle of the fountains and water features in the gardens was breathtaking. This is however, not a place for the faint hearted ,there are many many steps
Hadrian's Villa has a lot of uneven rocky ground and if you are slow or incapacitated in any way I would not recommend this tour. In fact it was disappointing to this elderly couple that this was not stated at the outset as it old have assisted in their decision making. For me this tour , apart from "grumpy girl" was terrific!!!

Love love loved this tour, Tuscany is picture postcard perfect wherever you look. The visit to the vineyard for lunch was terrific and the wines tasted top class! Montepulciano and Pienza were quaint medieval towns that was very pleasant to stroll around. This is a long day but the coach was comfortable and the guides always factor in "comfort stops "

Cinque Terre Hiking Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Monday 6 th October Alex and Julian the guides, and Franco the bus driver, from Walkabout tours were all terrific. We had a fabulous day hiking and visiting the small picturesque towns of the Cinque Terre. You need a reasonable level of fitness to do this and please be courteous and let others that are faster pass by as there are a lot of people on this trail with varying degrees of speed who get a little frustrated by the slower ones. The towns themselves are very colourful and provide plenty of photo opportunities. This is our second tour with Walkabout and they have truly set the bench mark for being attentive to customers needs and work tirelessly all day to provide you with a great experience. Lunch at the restaurant was really yummy, and the boat trip was the icing on the cake for an all round terrific Day would highly recommend this tour and this company.

Wow,Walkabout Tours set the bar very high indeed what a great tour !!! Agata the tour guide and Franco the driver worked tirelessly from start to finish. The lunch and wines (4) at the Tuscan farm/winery were also of a high standard, delicious and plentiful. Siena was amazing, the cathedral, for me a standout amongst the many in Italy, San Gimignano was beautiful. No trip to Italy would be complete without a visit to the field of miracles where the leaning tower can be found. We did 2 tours with this company and would highly recommend them, this is a very long day and right up until the end Agata was talking to everyone to help them with any questions or info for the rest of their journeys 5 star all the way. Wow what a day, we saw and learnt so much today, but the standout for us was definitely the Ufizzi with the best guide ever ! Paul, he was absolutely brilliant, he engaged with the whole group and brought the life and times of the Medici family and the artworks to life. He showed us the symbolism in the Art and decoded their meanings . It was truly a Davinci code afternoon. He was so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and entertaining that we all had a great time. Would definitely recommend this trip but ask for Paul if you can ; )

Skip the Line: Venice in One Day Including Boat Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

Skip the line???........yeah right!.......Skip the tour we say! St Marks Basilica was closed for the morning on the day of our tour due to the high ground water level caused by the spring tide. Closures are a regular occurrence by all accounts, during spring tides (times around the full or new moon).OK , so the tour company cannot control nature, but what we do not understand is why the tour company, with their local knowledge (you don't need to be a Master Mariner to access tide datum these days) did not re organise our tour to visit the basilica at the end of the tour which concluded at 1:30pm, 30 minutes after St.Marks was scheduled to reopen at 1:00 pm. At the very least the guide should have provided free tickets for customers to enter St Marks at a later time! Having said this, the canal boat tour was excellent, but you can do this as a cheaper separate tour!

Swiss Alps Bernina Express Rail Tour from Milan

Milan, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Bus to Tirano is a long drive but once there soak up the atmosphere and scenery in this quaint mountainside town. Lunch and wine at local resteraunt was superb and the smart ones who took up this option were seriously chilled by the time we boarded the famed Bernina train for the ride of a lifetime up the winding twisting track through 'Milka' country, with stunning views down the valley at every turn! St Moritz was a bit sterile and disappointing but on the whole a great tour.Would probably rate 5 stars in the snowy season.Neil and Gillian Western Australia.

Wow! The Colosseum was amazing you can almost hear the roar of the crowd ! Being able to access the lower levels was a highlight and for those for which stairs are an issue , there is an elevator. This is such a special place and the guide was excellent in her knowledge and ability to set the scene. Palatine hill was also well worth the visit and it is also so much better with a guide as you really wouldn't know the significance of the buildings and artefacts you were viewing without one.
