Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating

My Review

This was a large tour on a double-decker bus, and I think in the future I'll stay away from the large tours. They're just not for me. All the stops are pretty rushed, which you have to expect when you're doing several stops in five hours. My only criticism - the 9:00 tour left at 8:38. That seems awfully early to me. The Viator ticket said to be there 15 - 20 minutes early. I happened to arrive 35 minutes early because of the bus schedule in Amsterdam. Darn good thing, or they'd have left without me. So be aware of that if you're on this tour! Also, they didn't do a head count or anything when you get back on the bus between stops, so make sure you're on time getting back to the bus...

Amsterdam Canals Pizza Cruise

The tour was pretty good. The pizza was similar to one of the establishments here in Canada commonly ordered for large groups (in other words... ok, but not great). The boat was nice. There was a lot of confusioin when we checked in - they'd overbooked the tour. The people who were working on the boat were very, very nice.

This was one of the highlights of our entire trip. The tour ended up small - just four of us - and I think that's part of the reason it was so great. The guides/actors were completely amazing. The tour is very, very well done. My son is 11, and he loved it too.

This is a great way to get from one end of the Royal Mile to the other without having to hike up the hill! It also gives you a good tour of the entire Royal Mile over the audio guide, so it's perfect if you're only in Edinburgh for a short time. It's also a good start to your stay, since it gives you an overview of what's there. One of the stops is the Museum of Scotland. It's well worth the stop, and it's free admission.

Our guide was Shelby, and she was fantastic. It's a small tour - the bus holds 16, I think. I would definitely book another tour with Rabbie's in the future, if I ever get back to the UK. Shelby knew when to talk to keep us entertained while she drove, and when to let us reflect on her stories of Scotland. And she's an amazing story teller. The passion in her voice as she talked about Mary, Queen of Scots kept us all enthralled.
