What a great experience, even though I thought it might kill me!! It was so worth it! These little towns are so beautiful and quaint. The hike up the 382 steps was a challenge for me, but I took my time and all was well. I thought that was the strenuous part of the trip- wrong. After a great lunch, we started the hike. I thought I was in pretty good condition, but the heat got to me. People who were older than me, heavier than me, and more injured than me, passed me up! Our wonderful guide, Angel, carried my backpack for me and kept coming back to check on me. He truly is an angel!! So I took the hike at my ease and eventually made it to the end. We took trains between the little towns, and had plenty of time to explore each one. The boat ride was relaxing and scenic. I would have NEVER been able to self navigate this trip to the level this tour provided. It was worth the price! That is certainly not true of every tour you take! The bus there and back was comfortable and the A/C was a blessing. I don't know how Angel kept track of us all, but he did an awesome job of keeping us together and getting us to keep to the schedule. He was always relaxed and friendly, taking the time to stop and talk to us about our lives away from Italy. I would recommend this trip to ANYONE. If you are not able to climb the stairs or take the long hike, ask about alternate transportation. I would hate to have anyone miss the opportunity to see these 5 little towns. It represents Italy so well!! I appreciated that the gelato prices were the same as in Florence. They didn't jack up the prices! Thanks for that!!!
If you are up for an adventure and want to get a little rush dashing between people and cars, this tour is for you! I thought it was great fun, but I almost got hit by a car and almost ran over 5 difference people. At one point, my 20 year old daughter had to choose between getting hit by a car or hitting another on-coming bicycle- she chose to hit the bike. So I think I would still recommend the tour, but beware the crowds. The guide wants you to stay together, but you hate to be too close to your fellow bikers, since they need to stop on a dime! I am glad we did the tour, but I would not recommend it for the older traveler or younger children (pre- junior high).
