When they say private..they mean private! It was me, my guide Inan and the driver in a Mercedes mini-van. I have to admit that I was blown away with the scenery on the drive friom the port to the Ephesus area. Reminded me of the Colorado Rockies in certain areas. First stop was to the House of the Virgin Mary to avoid the crowds. Very interesting place in a beautiful setting, Then we heading to the Ephesus site itself which is right down the road. Once you enter, it is a down hill walk through the area and the amazing thing is that only a small part has been excavated so far. I must have taken 300 photos in this site alone. It was also nice having Inan as my private guide getting a locals perspective of the area and the site. We also toured a turkish rug making factory and a pottery shop in which you can get some great deals. A full day of fun that is highly recommended
Our ship arrived at the port on 10/24/13 and we were promptly greeted by a tour rep at the entrance. We had two cabs waiting for us that took us to the tour starting point. My only complaint is that we had to meet our guide in a subway train station during rush hour, but the reason why is that the station is also a museum with the walls acting as a time capsule..skeletons and all! The guide was incredible..I believe his name was Costas and as with most Viator/local guides, a well educated one. The grand finale of climbing to the top of the Acropolis is breathtaking, although very crowded in the peak season, so take your time and enjoy in the views as they are spectacular! This excursion was well worth the money as you have time on your own for 2 1/2 to 3 hours to continue exploring or walk around the shops/cafes in the Plaka area surrounding the base of the Acropolis.
