Washington D.C., District of Columbia
Our guide, Jenny Mae, was awesome! The group was relatively small in size, about 11 of us. Once we walked from the meeting point (Library of Congress), we crossed the street and lined up to enter the Capitol Building. That was a great experience. Jenny Mae is familiar with so many facets of DC and had a lot of interesting stories to supplement what we hear about in the different locales throughout the day. The group walks around the back side of the Capitol Bldg grounds and meets up with our tour bus. The driver waits for us to arrive; there is another tour group sharing our bus but as we depart for each new stop, Jenny Mae remains with us and enlightens us with certain facts, quips about the buildings we'll see, or other fun ways to make the history lesson even more interesting. Everything seems so seamless in the way it's planned out. Each place we went to was really interesting and she gave us bits of information to enhance our self-guided walks around places like the Jefferson Memorial, time to walk around and observe, read plaques, etc at each of our stops. Anyone wanting her to talk more at a particular stop it seems she was read to do that, too. There was a cooler on the bus filled with cold bottled water; you can drink as much as you like. The Capitol Bldg does not allow any bottles, liquids, food, or items of that nature. Our best idea was to leave the purse at the hotel and just wear a small clutch for my credit card, ID, cash. My iPhone (my camera!) was in my pocket - that's allowed everywhere. Our tour was August 3rd, it was overcast yet warm, but not super hot. There is quite a bit of walking involved, but the bus is there exactly when you need it. The Potomac River cruise and lunch was perfectly timed. Just right when we were tiring and getting hungry. Only thing I'd change is to include the Library of Congress as one of the stops so she could tell us more about it. We had a completely rewarding experience.
