Washington D.C., District of Columbia
I had a magnificent day on my trip to Gettysburg. On the way over there and back we were presented with the movie Gettysburg, which was a real treat.
When we arrived there we first went to the Farnsworth house, which is magnificently preserved with bullet holes and all from the civil war. The local guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining being dressed in period uniform and a muscat.
At the visitor's center we got to watch a great presentation of the three days of the battle, first with a documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman, and then a greatly representation of the battle using a huge painting reproduced to present the various stages of the battle illuminated by lights behind it.
But the best was when we actually went to the battlefield, being guided by an extremely knowledgeable guide that was entertaining and made everything seem so alive.
This day trip is very highly recommended to anyone interested in the civil war.
