Private New York Walking Tour with a Personal Photographer

New York City, New York

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

This was a great afternoon. Was travelling with my sister so it's either one or other of us in photos, unless we can get someone to take one of both of us.
The photographer was really chatty, friendly and most importantly, knowledgeable about the city and had lots of different stories about various parts of it. The tour was very well organised and we moved about Manhattan easily (we didn't need to stay within Manhattan, but we chose to do so)
The only small thing I'd say about the photographer is that he sometimes started taking photos before you were quite ready, that doesn't really get a "natural" photo, just one that looks like you weren't ready...and there were quite a few like that. There were though, a lot of great photos - in lots of amazing locations.
I very much recommend this tour - we took the 3 hour tour and we went from Times Square, to Central Park, to the Upper West Side, down to City Hall area, to Brooklyn Bridge and Greenwich Village and Soho/Noho - we had a brilliant afternoon and learned a lot about the city.
Thoroughly recommend this trip.

Washington DC Day Trip from New York

New York City, New York

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

Maybe on another day, this trip might have been a lot better. As it was a 7am departure, we, along with many other passengers were there in plenty of time (around 6.30). There were several trips leaving from the same departure point and staff seemed extremely vague about which bus was going where. Once we identified our bus we were all still waiting outside the bus at 7am! People were getting restless but none of the staff seemed to be in a hurry.
Finally left NYC at 7.30 - it took fully 5 hours to get to Washington DC - a journey from Hell. It was freezing on the bus. The a/c was fixed to be either full blast cold - or off! I ended up buying a hoodie in DC for the journey home, as well as the jacket I had. I felt ill, it was so cold. Lots complained to the staff, if it was put off for a minute or 2, others complained as vents weren't consistent throughout the bus.
The driver got pulled over by the police for speeding and then said loudly "I hate when they do that" - well - don't speed then! Same driver then got lost and stopped stationary in the middle of the highway, right in the run of traffic, extremely dangerous to say the least. The other staff got their phones out to check GPS as to an alternate route. We also got caught in traffic tailbacks due to road construction and the same driver kept lamenting all the other routes she COULD have taken - surely a bus tour company checks the routes they're intending taking before departure??
The "English tour guide" was Israeli and although his English was fair, it was a big stretch to describe him as an English tour guide as some of his pronunciations, we only knew what he was saying because we knew a lot of the history already.
Food, whilst not included in the trip, the ONLY option for eating was the McDonald's in the Smithsonian Museum. If you don't like McDonald's, tough! Everything in Washington itself was rushed because of the lateness of leaving. Very disappointed in this much anticipated tour!

My Review

We very much enjoyed this trip. It was everything it was advertised to be, with a knowledgeable guide pointing out the very many points of interest. Watching all the lights of the Manhattan Skyline coming on at dusk when coming back down the East River was amazing.
Thoroughly recommend this trip.
