We opted for the free transport from our hotel a little outside the centre of Madrid and were not disappointed, especially as the pilot (whose English was very good) took us back afterwards. It's an early start (5.30am) from Madrid but certainly well worth it, and we were back around midday so had the rest of the day to enjoy. We certainly think that Segovia was the best choice, with great views of this wonderful old city. Finally, I would say that, for first timers, the very large basket, holding about 16 people, definitely felt safer that some of the smaller baskets we saw on other balloons that day !!!
For my wife and I this was a wonderful introduction to the historic sights of Madrid and the joys of tapas on our first night there. However, this was no boring history lesson but great fun. Our fellow guests (from the US) were great fun too and we enjoyed their company and exchanging stories from home and abroad. Finally, we have to say a big thank you to our tour guide who was also very good company and chose very well when it came to the tapas bars, the wine and the food. Very helpfully she also gave us some great advice on restaurants and tapas bars to go to later in our stay.
