Overall this was a good tour. Not a GREAT tour, but it was the only one I could book at pretty much the last minute that guaranteed seeing Pearl Harbor. It also included the USS MIssouri which I enjoyed, but I could have lived without the Pacific Air Museum and the USS Bowfin.
We were one of the first couples to be picked up at our hotel. We spent way over an hour picking up other people and sitting on the bus before finally heading out to Pearl Harbor. Our tour guide was Keola. Nice guy but talked waaaay too much! He spent too much time finding out where everyone was from and playing some silly game introducing everyone based on where they are from.
When we finally arrived at Pearl Harbor, he made a "big deal" out of the fact that a few of us had brought bags or purses. The tour description as well as the operator at the tour office, assured me that there would be a place to secure our bags. Keola acted like we had commiitted a crime! I did not appreciate that. After we secured our bags, we then headed over to the USS Missouri for a "self guided" tour, and then to the Aviation Museum. Enjoyed the Missouri but once again, could have lived without the aviation museum where we had lunch.
We then headed back to Pearl Harbor and FINALLY to what we wanted to see. Keola then had us all stand in the hot sun while he gave us some history on Pearl Harbor. There was no need to gather us in the middle of the courtyard in a circle around the World Map, IN THE HOT SUN to do this. And after all of that, and finally getting into the theater, watching the video, the Navy canceled all the ferrys for the rest of the day due to high winds. Very disappointing. The tour company did make that up by taking us out to the Memorial the next day so we could visit the Memorial.
Bottom line, if you just want to see the Memorial, don't do this tour. Too Long. If all that military history rocks your boat, then do it. I would ask for a different tour guide, though.
We did this tour on our first night in Reykjavik based on previous reviews and were not disappointed.
This is not just "touring another brewery". This is theater at it's best. Once inside the brewery, we were escorted to a spacious tasting room/bar and Slyvia began her presentation by pouring us all a pint of Gull with an invitation for more beer if we so desired. She then proceeded to tell us about the history of beer, alcohol and prohibition in Iceland with all the drama and wit of an Emmy award winning actress. She captivated us with her charm and knowledge on the subject all the while keeping our glasses full of various beer concoctions consumed throughout the history of Iceland. We highly recommend this tour if love beer, folklore and being entertained. A great value for the money.
