The trip up to Vesuvius was breathtaking. The visit to Pompeii was magical. The lunch part of the trip needs rethinking: Fifty people hearded into a dreary restaurant room with hardly any windows, having a choice of just two pizzas, while other people around us were having pasta, clams, etc. did not make us feel good but more like cattle. Also, if you wanted to get an extra small bottle of water, it cost 4 euro! That was a rip-off! Other than the lunch part, the trip is definitely worth it. The two guides were very sweet and helpful and we enjoyed them a lot!
I was generally pleased with the excursion. The guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The Sistene Chapel was also amazing as was the Basilica of St Peter. The only (small) downside to the excursion was the fact that we didn't get to see a LOT of main exhibits from the Musei Vaticani. I know our time was limited but I got the feeling that we were rushing through the museum part, viewing only what was "on the way" to reach the Sistene Chapel. We SHOULD have seen Rafael's "School of Athens" for example, as well as some other major works that are housed in the museum. The map room or the tapestry room were certainly NOT as important! They were just, as I said above, "en route" to the Sistene chapel.
