Glad we did the trip as it gave an interesting in-sight into the origins of Christianity (pre-Christian pagan rituals in evidence). The guide's narrative was interesting to say the least! The displays of human bones (including the children of some notables) constructed to form chandaliers and various scenes was just too weird for my taste and I was glad to get back into the fresh air. My children were OK with it though. (Where did those monks get thousands of human bones from?) Tour was well organised and not much queuing to speak of.
An excellent, stand out tour - - our guide (Alfredo I think) was excellent - knowledgable and passionate about his subject. We paid extra for the early, small group tour which is well worth it - no queues or fuss. St Peter's Basilica is breath taking - you don't realise the scale of the main dome until you check out the people on the upper levels (looking ant like) - well worth the effort to climb up (or take lift). Museums and Sistine Chapel all well worth the visit - so much to see for those interested in art and culture spanning previous three millenia
