Florence Cooking Course and Local Market Visit

Florence, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

This is a nice tour in that you meet some nice people and the chefs are fun and friendly. It was a bit of a rocky start to the tour in that many other tour operators also use this cooking school. So they fill it with all sorts of last minute participants. That left us waiting on a street corner for about 30 minutes with a tour operator who seemed bothered by having to gather us all together. We then walked over to the market and met the friendly chef. We were a group of 18 (which is not what was promised) and the cooking school has space for up to 28. But the school had a nice menu planned. We had all the fun of making pasta and big Florentine meatballs. Its a nice way to spend the morning.

Skip the Line: Uffizi Gallery and Vasari Corridor Walking Tour

My Review

This is a pretty incredible experience -- in that we ended up with a very private tour for just the two of us. We met Jessica at 8 AM, and she dove in right away with lots of Florentine history. She then walked us through the Uffizi and gave us a great understanding of the evolution of painting from the start of the middle ages through the height of the Renaissance. Breakfast had a lovely setting out on the terrace, but it was small and simple (a croissant and coffee). We then found the private guard and walked the distance of the Vasari Corridor for about an hour. There are 6,000 people a day who go to the Uffizi Gallery and that day there were just the two of us walking the corridor at 11 AM. Pretty amazing

Florence Vespa Tour: Tuscan Hills and Italian Cuisine

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour is a hoot. The tour operator runs both vespa and mini fiat tours. We were a group of 10 with four bikes and one car. You go winding through the hills and parks outside Florence. The end of the tour is in the area across the river from the main part of Florence at a lovely Trattoria. But the best part of the tour is Angel. He is a Spaniard, married to an Italian, who owned a restaurant in Spain, and ran restaurants in London. This means he knows the wine and olive oil industry well -- and understands what it means to truly host a guest. Angel is outgoing and vibrant and is a great introduction to how to live La Dulce Vida
