Private Tour: Monterey Coastal Sights by Bike

Monterey, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We would highly recommend this tour. After outfitting us with bikes, helmets, and water bottles, our guide Ryan skillfully led us through what must be one of the most beautiful, scenic routes on the planet. We took a number of stops for photos, rest and water. Our turn-around point was Pebble Beach, though Ryan was open to going further had we so desired. We are thankful that he found us a reasonably priced and tasty option for lunch there, with outdoor picnic tables. While the way there challenged us a bit (fair amount of uphill), the way back was shorter and mostly downhill, which seems like good planning. Our only suggestions for improvement would be that the guide be more aware of stragglers, and slow down to walk with them up hills if necessary, but this was a minor concern.

Carmel Small-Group Food and Wine Walking Tour

Monterey, California

My Review

This was a very pleasant way to spend a few hours in Carmel. Our guide Debbie led us around to sample some very fine foods and beverages, thoughtfully providing a good substitute beverage for our underage daughter. She was also sensitive to special diets. One of the women on the tour was vegetarian, and that was accommodated. Several of the places we stopped were unique and interesting apart from the food, and she filled us in on their backgrounds.

Ride the Magic Bus: A 1960s-Era San Francisco Tour

San Francisco, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Our guide “Tree-Flower” welcomed us with a flower for our hair, and remained in character as a time-travelling hippie for the entire tour. Great acting job! The tour was both entertaining and educational. It not only covered Haight-Ashbury and the Summer of Love, but the broader background of the hippie movement in San Francisco and its context in history.

Muir Woods, Giant Redwoods and Sausalito Half-Day Trip

San Francisco, California

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

This tour was a bit unorganized. This tour is supposed to pick you up at your hotel. The tour group tells you to be ready an hour ahead and wait outside your hotel. Not pleasant with no benches, crowds and panhandlers. Seems that they should be able to plan this a bit better than take an hour of your vacation time to wait like this.
When we placed a phone call to them to confirm, they told us we needed to take a cab to their office. They had our home address as the pickup spot (MN) and said they would not pick us up there. After 45 minutes of multiple calls, they again told us to take a cab. This was while their bus driver was now there, telling us to come with him.
After all this, they take you to their office and you all have to get off to get the tickets from them, more wasted time. We took off a half hour late. The bus/tour guide then chats but there is no guide allowed in the woods. You’re on your own.
Sausalito was a nice stop.
We arrived back 1 hour late and missed our next tour.
