This tour saved us many miles of walking or many dollars spent on taxis. It stops at the most interesting attractions in Chicago and you hardly ever wait more than 15 minutes for a bus to arrive. Our driver even stopped on occasion when it wasn't even a scheduled stop at the request of passengers, Our weather for the three days we used the bus was perfect so we used the upper deck unless it was full. Even if it was full, enough people departed at each stop to allow you to go upstairs. The stairs are rough to negotiate, and I'm not sure how anyone with any physical issue could get up and down the stairs. The only other negative is that some of the narration guides go over the top with their narration. We understand that their job is to entertain, but one of our guides went too far, baiting people who made the mistake of walking too close to the bus. I'd swear that he was high on something. We even had a few people ask to get off the bus before they got to the first stop because they quickly tired of this guide's banter. He was the exception and not the rule, and the other guides were very informative.
If you have four or more days to spend in Chicago, or if you start out every morning very early and afternoon until 6 pm, the City Pass is a great deal. Unfortunately, we only had three full days and being over 65 years of age, we don't have boundless energy, so we didn't get full use of the pass. Where we did use the pass, it permitted us to bypass long lines (and they were long especially on Saturday and Sunday) and to see exhibits that you would not see if you bought the basic ticket. Even though we didn't use two of our five passes, I feel that we easily got our money's worth in terms of admission fees. The convenience of bypassing long lines is certainly a bonus. The passes are good for nine days, and I'd say you need to sightsee 3 or more days to get the most out of your City Pass. After all, you don't want to ignore some of the free attractions, like the Chicago Cultural Center, the Bean and Buckingham Fountain, to mention just a few.
