This is a quite a good affordable tour to take if you don't want to deal with the hassle of figuring out how to get to the 3 islands by yourself.
■ Good way to spend a leisurely half-day away from Venice itself. The islands are worth a visit - Burano is especially beautiful and photogenic with the colorful houses.
■ The guide is quite good with providing relevant commentary and information on the islands.
■ The boat ride is comfortable and not too crowded with lots of opportunities to take great photos of Venice and the islands from the water.
■ The visit to the 1st island, Murano, was a huge disappointment because you don't get much time on the island and you don't actually get to venture out of the glass shop that they take you to. You get a 2 minute demonstration of some glass-blowing artistry and then you're herded upstairs to view all the glass art for sale. We never got the opportunity nor found out how to go outside the shop to see the rest of the island - or perhaps other shops.
■ There's not much to see on Torcello island but it's still a nice relaxing stop to get some drinks or food. The food cart closest to the church is run by a lovely, friendly lady who serves some great paninis.
If you're time-constraint or don't want to find your own way to these islands, then take this tour - with the knowledge that you don't get much time on each island. My recommendation is to set aside a full day and find your way to these islands using the regularly scheduled public boats - it just takes some planning and it'll be cheaper and you get to decide on how much time you want to spend on each island.
