Hitler and the Third Reich Munich Walking Tour

Munich, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was an excellent way to explore the remains of the Third Reich in Munich. Our guide was very well informed. It was interesting to see how the remaining buildings have been used, and chilling to see the site of the putsch. As Simon Winder writes, it was a pity that the policeman did not aim a couple of inches to the left. The names of the four policemen who were killed were recorded on a plate in the square, but unfortunately this has been removed to a museum.

Munich City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Munich, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

An excellent way to see Munich, with a short and a long trip available. The longer route takes you to the Nymphenberg Palace, a gorgeous extravagance, where the Wittelsbachs would retire from the pressures of marriage arrangements, and becoming Holy Roman Emperor. It then takes you to the Olympic Park, where there is a tower, and the HQ of BMW. The short trip is a really good introduction to what to see in the old town.

This is a good river trip from the outskirts. Best not to do a shorter one previously, like I did, because you then have a big overlap.

Potsdam Half-Day Trip from Berlin

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

This was the most disappointing of all the Viator trips. The guide was an audio one, with annoying tinny music, and we were simply dumped in the middle of a coach park and told to make sure we were back on time. Might have been my fault, but it was not clear how much time the queuing would take place for the timed entry. But Frederick the Great's Palace of Sans Souci is worth seeing even from the outside.

Final Days of World War 2 Walking Tour of Berlin

Berlin, Germany

My Review

This was a super introduction to the darker history of the city. Our guide, Cesar, was very well informed, and kept us entertained and instructed on the lengthy walk and bus trip. The tour ends in Wilhelmstrasse. On the site of part of the Chancellery, there is a kindergarten where children of many races play, and on the site of the bunker, there is, famously, a car park.
