Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este Half-Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We had two languages combined (French and English) which I didn't really like because you had to wait for the guide to give the explanation in both languages. One perk of this company is that they do offer hotel pick-up in the morning and then will drop you off at a major metro line so you can make your way back to the hotel. Villa d'este or Trivoli is amazing especially considering how long ago this was done and without modern plumbing. Hadrian's Villa was cool but I personally liked Pompeii better. Please note for all major archeological digs the items recovered are in a different museum that is not part of the tour. What you are seeing is just the ruins and a few re-created statues. This tour spends about 1 hour at each location and for us that was a perfect amount of time.

Skip the Line: Vatican in One Day

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was offered through Dark Rome. Fantastic tour! Our morning guide was David who did an excellent job explaining things and mixed in some humor as well. You will be blown away by St. Peter's basilica and Vatican museum. The Sistine chapel is also cool but very crowded. David's oversized pictures and explanations really enhanced the tour. The second half of the day is spent touring the other three main churches that make up the four most important churches to the Vatican. This is a combination bus and walking tour. Rebecca was our guide. She is very enthusiastic and always takes time to answer questions and assist with any other questions you have about Rome once the tour is over. Great overview of the Vatican if you only have one day. You would miss out on a lot without these knowledgable guides. We thought the Vatican area was the most difficult to navigate-make sure you allow plenty of time to get to the meeting point.

Ghost and Mystery Walking Tour of Rome

My Review

This tour is interesting because you hear about the darker side of Rome. You hear things the Vatican glosses over and that Rome's past is darker then you may think. Tour was offered through Dark Rome who we have zero complaints about. Guide was great and spoke clear English.

Naples and Pompeii Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We had multiple languages on the tour. In my opinion you are better off just doing a full day at Pompeii or if there is a tour that is a combination of Pompeii as well as a trip to the Naples museum where all the artifacts are that were recovered from Pompeii that would be better. Naples is extremely busy and the bus tour really doesn't do the city any justice. Very hard to see what the guide is talking about and the switching between multiple languages didn't help. Pompeii itself is massive and the guide was good and took us to the main sights. Glad we went but would have picked the other tour option or gone through different tour company.

Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small Group Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was offered through Dark Rome. Very unique tour. Please note this is a combination bus and walking tour which is nice on sore feet. First stop is the Catacombs. Rebecca did a great job explaining the city as we drove to the sight and lots of important and interesting info on the catacombs. Rebecca is very passionate and you can tell she is always doing research to make sure she offers best tour possible. Next stop is the church of San Clemente. This is four layers of history you walk through which is quite fascinating-this is a church you might skip on your own because the outside doesn't do the inside justice. Third stop is the bone stop pictured for this tour. Very cool and interesting! Great tour def recommend!

Rome Super Saver: Colosseum and Ancient Rome with Best of Rome Afternoon Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was offered through Dark Rome. The meeting place on the directions say in the square above the subway for the morning tour which is actually a circular area above the line :) thought I'd mention since quite a few people were confused. Giulia was our morning guide. Very good tour of the Colosseum and very knowledgable guide. She had lots of great pictures to help you I vision what it looked like in ancient times. Morning tour also includes the Roman forum. Afternoon tour led my Damien. This tour brings you to the major attractions like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon. We saw the sight on our own but you miss a lot without a guide. Overall great. Anything Dark Rome tour company led was fantastic!

Rome Food Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was through Eating Italy Food Tours. This was a last minute add on and I think it is my favorite of all the tours we did in Rome. Can't say enough great things about our guide Sarah. Originally from the US but has spent 10 yrs in Europe. We did this our first day and it's the perfect day to do it. This tour brings you into the Roman food district and is off the beaten path (no tourists). Your tour also includes food venues the guides recommend which is very helpful. You def want to get away from the tourist food places to enjoy better food and cheaper prices. Really fun tour with plenty of great food!
