DO NOT MISS THIS! Absolutely stunning, wonderful night out. Their strap-line is "Miss this and miss Shanghai" which accurately sums up my opinion too.
Well - we got what it said in the blurb. Picked up from hotel - total of 5 guests in the comfortable mini-van. Our guide, Chris, wasn't a particularly well person on the day and I think it reflected in a rather lacklustre performance from him. I hope he feels better by now. I acknowledge that the tour says we will only see the wall and canal at Suzhou, but I was left wishing that we had had the chance to see inside the old city wall too. As others have said, the lunch (which at 1120 was ridiculously early) was fairly bland and served in a large, empty hotel dining room. We found the silk factory interesting - perhaps aided by a very energetic and enthusiastic guide who was everything, on the day, that Chris was not. We even bought a duvet! The water village is a delightful tourist trap. Dropped back at the hotel on completion, it is a full day out in which you get to see quite a lot of rural scenery.
An evening cruise on a Mississippi style paddle steamer. The views were impressive - the loud music accompanying them not so. Cruise lasted about 75 minutes - the last 20 minutes enduring an interminable announcement on a loop from a lady telling me the tour was about to end.
Our guide remained on the shore for this part and then accompanied us to the Peace Hotel for a quick look at the impressive ground floor interior and then a ride in a trolley bus thing on the main shopping street.
