Barcelona Hop-on Hop Off Tour: East to West Route

Barcelona, Spain

My Review

This was a good choice, and gave us an overview of some parts of the city of Barcelona in which we were interested. The colors of the lines and whether we needed the E/W vs N/S vs other line tour was confusing to figure out (Red? Blue? Green?) Not sure how this could have been made clearer to short-term visitors, perhaps just make available a 2-day pass for all lines? We were here the first week in October, and the buses were only moderately busy, so it couldn't have hurt to let us choose which line(s) we wanted to go on. As it turned out we didn't even get to use the second day of our pass -- we were touring Casa Batllo which was near the end of the E/W tour line and we didn't have enough time to ride it all the way around again to take us to our destination. So we hustled and walked to Casa Batllo from our hotel near Plaza Catalunya (not sure if I spelled this right). Maybe sometimes the buses should reverse route direction?

Pick a nice day and sit up top. There are obstructed views from nearly every seat in the lower level of the bus. I think the tour guides did a very poor job of being available to answer tourist questions -- during the tour they never left their seat behind the driver on the lower level.

Our tour guide was good, but it was very confusing to me to find the place we were supposed to go to get our tickets and meet our tour guide. The ticket booth was not on the premises for the church, or even across the road in the park where the other vendors were. It was in a very poorly marked/numbered travel agency beyond the park and across yet another street. You need to do a better job of explaining this to your purchasers.

I feel having a tour guide enhanced our understanding of this incredibly fantastic church, its history, its architects and its architecture. The walk through the small museum was worthwhile, especially before seeing the inside of the church. The tour only lasted an hour, I thought it should be a bit more complete for the price we paid. Maybe including a trip up in one of the towers?

The headset I was given in order to listen to our guide kept cutting off her voice and eventually stopped working altogether. However, she was very nice in keeping me close to her so I could hear what she was saying without using one.

This tour (audio guide) was very worthwhile. The audio was informative and the house was perfectly wonderful. What vision Gaudi had!! To see the house, which was completely his design, and the church with which he had to please others in his design, was quite a contrast. His nature influences were clear in both, however. Such harmony and beauty. I think this was one of my favorite places to visit on my trip in the Mediterranean. Don't miss it, and ViaTour offered a good value for the package.
